yes Mindef has them.

I have been on an errand before during NSF time where they put the "fake" private number over the MID plate

[lipsrsealed]

Every car has an original LTA registration number.

Just that for MINDEF, they superimposed another set of their own series. If need to, they put back the original number, e.g. when they send the car to agents for warranty servicing.

They are not fake numbers, duke.

The carplate is fake.

I tested on the LTA portal, using my 1982 Nissan ...... system message was " Vehicle has been de-reg"

Not entirely true..

"WR03829: No vehicle record can be found." doesnt mean the plate is fake.. It could simply mean that the owner has retained the plate, but has yet to register it on his "new" car..

I know because I just scrapped my Odyssey and retained the plate, but I have not registered it on my "new" car yet..

I just did a quick check on the LTA website and it also gives the same "

WR03829: No vehicle record can be found." result..

So perhaps what Throttle said is true la.. Red plate actually but use his retained plate.. Lol

maybe not "fake" ... maybe just never pay road tax or registration fees :)

Cud b the actual car was Laid-Up. But then the guy use that number easy to get caught.

He sud use a number that is from a car running on the roads better. Even if got summons, the genuine owner wil still receive it.

If the guy has more than one car but use same number on all his cars, he just has to pay the summons n LTA wud not b any wiser that this guy is only paying R.Tax/Registration/Etc for only one car but is driving several cars, all with the same number plate.

but why would he be using the non-existent number plate if he is afraid of being caught.

remember someone in this forum said before. "ai hiong, ka ka hiong.."

Thats why this case seems strange. We still not sure if the number 3388 is valid n on another car belonging to him or a relative/fren?

Maybe the guy panic when the warden wan to issue the summons? Maybe the actual car using 3388 is a different make/model/colour?

That guy cud hv become too daring maybe cos he using the false number for long time already n never expected to b summoned by the warden?

Many questions not answered here.

Depends on whether the owner buy used car or new car when the current car reached 10 years. Usually if the number is not bad, and if the owner buy new car then might retain number. If buy used car then might not retain number cause the admin charges too expensive.

Now tranfering old number to a 2nd hand car also not expensive anymore. Last time can only transfer old number to a new car. Not anymore.
