Painting Calipers

[Achtung]

I have seen many shops and free lance painters claiming to be able to paint calipers in a day and some without even removing the wheels!

 

My question is:

 

What kind of paint is used?

Without proper baking and prearing the surface to be painted, does the paint last? LPPL if one has gotta paint it again right?

Without removing the entire caliper, does it mean the inside of the caliper will not be painted and there will be two colours? The old and the new?

 

For those who has gone this route, please share your experience. I am aksing cause I just removed my calipers to spray them as I believe it will be more thorough.

I think if the rotor can glow at nite after hard breaking, assuming the driver drives n brakes hard, the temperature at the calipers can be high and high temp paint is needed to paint it for a start

 

The existing calipers also need to be cleaned, degreased, primed before painting. This means they have to be removed from the car for such proper preparation prior to the actual painting

I did with street calipers before the bro went Hendon

Think he mentioned using some hammerite paint

Apparently sprays are not as lasting

 

No removal

Just make sure enough access thru the spokes

( are they called spokes on cars? Lol)

Simple prep of washing w some detergent

Prolly degreaser too?

 

Only visible parts are painted I guess

Quite thorough

Quite good quality too

But need to maintain cos brake dust may bake in

LOL, I handpainted my 1 week old vios front n rear calipers with normal oil based red paint in a small 1L tin years ago. The paint stayed on even after i wash the calipers weekly with old sock. Easily DIY project. Just remove the wheel. Sit down. Wipe them n paint. 2-3hr job.

That means, the rear of the caliper cannot be painted if it is left on....

Had mine done with high-temp paint. Just repaint to a generic silver/grey. I think removing wheels will do a better job.
