Waiting for taxi in orchard

Transport analyst?

If you shift the current drivers to cabs at this point, wouldn't that exacerbate the already long cab waiting time?

I'm assuming drivers will opt for the closest substitute if they give up driving to orchard rd.

And don't get me started on the MRT at orchard on weekends...

Transport analyst indeed...

...that is, if you could get through to their booking centre during weekends or peak hours.

Ever use their apps to book one? Can take between 15 to 30 mins just to book a cab that is near your location. Best part is, during that waiting time, you could see 3 to 5 empty cabs zoom past you LOL!!!

Haiz, once I waited at my neighbourhood area for cab for close to 1 hour. Called also no use. They said will send cab, half hour later also no SMS for cab number. Then got empty cab came, I sit. Until talk to uncle then realise that sometimes they will say send cab, but some places they deem don't need do booking as will have a lot of empty cabs, they just say will send but don't, so as not to offend customer.

What the uncle say one la, don't know how true.

Wa like that take train a lot faster. Can save $ somemore. [sunny] [sunny]

wrong

take bus better

why?

coz in crowded train you look into next person's ears or nose or whatever

buses even though maybe crowded but still have more space between you and persons next to you....

somemore buses windows let us view the street scene or xmm on the streets, mrt train nothing to view

you go check out, and will understand what i mean

Everything is an excuse to raise ERP.

Road jam coz of too little lane? Raise ERP.

Road jam coz of entrance and exit too close together? Raise ERP.

Road jam coz MIW not enough bonus? Raise ERP.

Not enough money to upgrade public transport? Raise ERP.

Still not enough? Raise MRT fare.

*Hokkien expletives*

Agree!! still have to wait before i can praise you!!

This is what they call 'rising up to the ocassion', by raising ERP etc etc!!

Yes, it takes 2 hands to clap, but also can't blame commuter to be frustrated too. So now the issue is how to solve the jam???

Difficult..

i offer my service as part of the solution: if lta allows me to do it, i will offer a lift to whoever i choose if she's on the way from the taxi stand to my home, i can just drop her halfway, up to her to show her appreciation..... but i must get to choose my passenger

steady?

we do our little part to solve the national problem

Bus can look out, some routes quite nice, pass by a lot of tertiary institutions. Haha.. But I like MRT too.. Sometimes from city area can see OLs..

They should cut out the praise XX people before praising so and so again. Sometimes see so many good comments, but cannot praise.

You foreigner?

Everyone here has a car, no wait for taxi....

One is a basic.

Two is a necessity.

Three is a luxury.

That's why COE is still so high.

Everyone's aim is 3 cars per household.

Writer posted a feedback to newspaper - suggesting centralising Taxi management:

http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-letters/story/consider-having-central-taxi-management-system-20141003

OVER the past two weeks, we have heard many suggestions from passengers and cabbies on how to solve the problem of "vanishing" taxis and passengers. I suggest that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) form a regulatory body, similar to the Council for Estate Agencies in the property sector, to run a central taxi management system. The system will track all taxis and control their meters. It would serve all taxi

The system will track all taxis and control their meters. It would serve all taxi companies, which would contribute towards the cost involved in maintaining and operating it.

Fares can continue to be fixed by the taxi companies. Just as our bus services are required to ply remote areas like Lim Chu Kang and Sembawang, taxi companies should be required to meet a quota for covering "non-profit zones". There should be a central booking and taxi deployment system, and the "on call" signs should be centrally managed.

Once a booking is made, the "on call" signal cannot be switched off by the driver until the intended journey is completed.

Also, scrap all surcharges and introduce an incentive bonus, by raising flag-down fares substantially - say, by $2. Getting this incentive bonus is not an entitlement but a reward for following a code of conduct. With this, there will be no need to fine errant taxi drivers. Depriving them of this incentive bonus will be a powerful enough deterrent. The LTA should study the ramifications of such a system. With the technology we have today, it is viable. K.S. Rajan

Supercharged

Actually, the solutions r there but no taxi company dare to implement it.

Keep the rental of cab to $100.

Waived rental charge if hirer is on MC.

Sorry to say this, but I know 4 cab drivers that work less than 6hours a day. Some semi retired, most are just lazy.

this. Just scrap all those extras. Only midnight charge remain. It's a known fact that flagging down a cab in CBD/Orchard is near to impossible !!

Raise flag down to $5, increase call booking fee to $10. So people who really need cabs will call. With lesser calls, cabbies can no longer play hide and seek.

Supercharged

I feel that unless one hv driven a taxi in Singapore, one will not understand how it is like.

Booking fees etc will not deter those from booking n running off with street flag. Taxi coy only blacklist those errant commuters but TD still lose out in terms of time n petrol rushing to pick up passenger.

There are such inconsiderate commuters out there depriving a potential commuter from booking a cab n robbing TD of their time n running cost.

Turbocharged

In Hong Kong, the licence cost almost USD 1M. They probably take a loan for the licence.

That's why HK can achieve more with significantly lesser taxis and although our population density is very similar.

Here, you see drivers drive half day, use as private car etc...

Starting from tomorrow, 1st Sat of each month, Orchard Road is closed from 6pm.

So, shoppers be prepared to forget abt waiting for taxis... just take MRT back home :)

I wrote this before in some other forums regarding taxis: Commuters who booked a cab but got into another SHOULD CANCEL their booking to 'FREE UP' the cab so that it is able to take another commuter or booking.

I don't know if all commuters are aware that cabs which are "ON CALL" must wait at least 5 mins upon their scheduled arrival time before they can receive an approval to take another passenger or booking.

There ought to be more education on this cancellation thingy to commuters. This is one area which every interested party should look into! [smash]
