Changing Car Numbers

Can anyone enlighten me if I want to sell my current car number and want to bid for a new number from LTA, how does one go about it?

Do I sell the number 1st before bidding for a new one? Or bid 1st and sell in the amidst? What if I'm not able to sell the old number by the next bidding how?

Also, what are the financials involved in the transfers of selling.I'm aware bidding of new plates is min $1k. Any other costs ?

Many thanks in advance. Gurus plse advise

Bid first before u sell. U can choose to cancel your number at LTA and a replacement cost of $300 to the new car plate number.

If your choose to transfer the number to another vehicle instead of totally canceled it from the system, I think there is an additional of $1300 (transfer fee) on top of your bidded number.

It is not that easy bro. The steps would be:

1. Bid a new number for min 1k.

2. Find a buyer for your old number.

3. Either transfer your car to the buyer or the buyer needs to transfer his car to you.

4. If you transfer, he needs to retain your number or transfer to his car (here you can ask your buyer to bid a number for you and put the new number on your car and transfer back to you (you can avoid step 1 above this way)

5. If he transfers his car, you transfer your old number to his car and put your bidded on your car and then transfer his car back to him.

All these possible only when both cars are loan free. Number transfer is 1300$. New number on old car is 300$. Transfer is 11$. You can calculate the total cost involved.

Thanks... sounds a bit complex. Skin itchy so thinking of doing this but pretty troublesome.

Go thru dealers sure kena [knife]

I thought it would be difficult but this is even worse! Guess better guai guai let it be. Not worth the hassle and the hefty transfer fees

Thanks for the input

Retain number to old car needs to pay $1300, so expensive. Wonder how come LTA dont cancel such fee?! Even they have cancelled the transfer fee on used car ownership transfer.
