DIY Pizza and Bread

Have been upsetting some people lately with my other posts, so I thought I'd repent, and start a neutral topic. About Makan.

Recently, I watched some some cooking shows on the telly like Masterchef, and wanted to try my hand at baking my own stuff.

So I started with Pizza and Sausage Rolls and Curry Buns. I forgot to take photos of the Pizza, but here are photos of my 1st effort at mini hot dog rolls and curry buns. I'll post the next batch of Pizza.

These are scratch made - ie. using flour to make dough, all the way to baking in the oven. It takes a few hours to do everything, especially in the beginning as a noob, and it is definitely not worth comparing effort to money saved - 'cos it is much easier to buy these from the nearest bakery or order pizza from Dominos.

BUT, it is extremely satisfying to taste your own creations, and have neighbours and friends enjoy the food you made. up.

Anyone else bake stuff at home?

Lol.. at first I thought was difficult.. but youtube is a great teacher. So many step by step videos of how to make these things. I think we are living in the right era where all these tools available freely on the web.

After a couple of attempts, becomes quite easy.

hey, that's an idea... bake for sale!

So far no... just 1st time bake... got to do a few more and see if consistent.

Already have my son's school ask for bake donations for a school event!

Anyway - this kind of thing want to sell, must apply all sorts of permit from health board / NEA/etc.

I think can only make for friends; can't think of selling. Maybe just informal

I am itching to make pizza again.

Super tasty!
Next round must try using the BBQ pit - heard that using a pizza stone on the bbq will give the traditional pizza stove flavor.

share recipe :p or how do your explore your recipe?

For the pizza - there are several ideas:

1. for making the dough and pizza base, I used this recipe:

http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/14433/pizza+dough

2. Then I looked at this one for a whole tutorial of making pizza with video, but I did not really follow exactly - only used some tips:

http://www.monkeysee.com/play/995-how-to-make-pizza

3. for the buns and hot dog dough, i used this recipe:

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/burger-or-hot-dog-buns/

However, for the filling, i sort of improvised with the hot dog filling, and curry bun filling

4. Here's another version of hot dog buns I have not tried yet - but shall try nextt:

Now the pizza (3rd) time I can consider nearly expert liao.. haha. Definitely the taste is better than the similar one from pizza hut or dominos. And we can throw in any topping we want. Want to try seafood pizza also.

Next must buy the pizza stone and try out on the BBQ. Heard its more crispy on the bottom, and cook better than in the oven.

For the hot dog and curry bun - tried 1 time so far. Not bad, but can be better. I think can improve on letting the dough rise for a more fluffy bun. Need to put a bit more water than what is stated on the recipe.

My contribution...milk bread...

woah.. beautiful. I want to try bread as well. I don't have the proper bread tray to get the shape yet. Need to buy a few. I saw a cool recipe for that.

What flour did you use for your bread?

Just bread flour but use Tangzhong method for the soft and fluffy texture
