Darthrevan Supercharged October 26, 2013 Share October 26, 2013 Number of notices issued on the rise, but other violations have fallen: LTAKEEPING TO THE LIMIT: While most lorry loads keep within the designated passenger loads, an increasing number are violating the maximum limit. The number of lorry drivers caught carrying too many workers on their vehicles is on the rise, going by latest figures provided by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). There were 559 notices issued to drivers for carrying too many passengers on lorry load decks for the first eight months of this year alone, surpassing the number of notices issued for the whole of last year. There were 429 notices issued last year, a jump of more than eight times from the 51 in 2011. Since September last year, every worker has been required to have at least 8 sq ft of deck space to himself, up from 4 sq ft previously. Another rule was introduced to reduce the number of workers that may be carried, if goods or equipment are also transported, according to the remaining available floor space. When injuries / fatality is low, or zero, with such overloads, LTA / TP will not waste their time enforcing safety rules, assuming there are such rules? Watwheels Supersonic October 27, 2013 Share October 27, 2013 I'm thinking what for penalise the driver? He's just an employee he's not the company decision maker. I wonder if giving fine to the driver will help deter the occurence? Ppl will still take their chances. It's the driver's job after all. He can't buy another lorry and get an additional driver. Fine driver. What good will that do? With COE and high running cost getting another lorry what can company owners do to improve the situation? The only winner here I see is the authorities. Oh, even put LEDs and garlands!!! WTF!!! These roads bullies / mad-cows are a threat to other road users!!! If not of not wanting to block peak hour traffic, I will stop in front of them and give them a piece of my mind, on the spot!!! Where are the TPs!!!???? Fine both the owner and driver of the lorry if the owner/boss's the one who makes the driver speed and sets him a tight schedule on the road!!! Either the owner/boss is telling the driver to make as many trips as possible or setting the driver a tight schedule, or the driver himself wants to drive fast so that he can reach his dorm to relax early at the expense of the safety of other road users!!! Bro, I think (cannot confirm) is that the bangla lorry drivers are paid per trip to ferry the workers back to the dorm and then come back to take another load...that's why there is the incentive for them to speed and turn-around faster.. wanna deter, then or kong the employer who use this pay method and jail the lorry driver and ban from driving permanently for road hazard... see if they will chut this stunt again or not.. for those bros with car cam mounted at the back, you try and see if they tailgate you or not.. seems like if they can see the cam there then they guai guai not come so close for fear of being recorded and send video to TP... works for me... ↡ Advertisement
