It's really sad considering the history dates all the way back to the times of Alexander the Great and even beyond that. I was encouraged to read about some excavations being conducted and how some structures have survived, but so much has already been lost. Brits tried but lost, Russia failed, US bogged down.....this afghani should be respected as what they are....warriors! If US and Russia din use them as pawns in their powerplay they could have been a bettercountry.....and US shouldnt have abandon them after the russia retreat. But all are history now....sad! His notable books are The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns and more recently And The Mountains Echoed. The Kite Runner movie does not do the book justice. The book is so much better.
