Regarding the hong konger and his limited vocab. I think he is rather mild, noticed he didn't raise up his voice or had any agitated hand gestures. I think there are some inherent hate or helplessness for the peasants in that system, be it political or economic.

I spoken to a taiwanese taxi driver when i was in taipei sometime back

1. They have been POOR (as a country) for too long

2. Suddenly they are flushed with money (both legal and illegal)
