El Kaye Whye worries we all cant handle this TRUTH, that's why they use COE, ARF, ERP, etc etc to sugar-coat the TRUTH

They will easily say that the money is thrown back to the public by funding for new buses, buidling more MRT, blah blah blah...

Then you see SMRT and SBS laughing to the banks... Occasionally pay a bit of coffee powder money coz overcrowded..

Round and round it goes..

just wondering temasek's revenue is in which column..... Statutory boards?... [lipsrsealed]

Temasek is a holding company for GLCs like Singtel, NOL and SIA. They have shareholders and their profits go to the shareholders, which you may be one of them. The money they earn has nothing to do with government expenditure and revenue; they don't go to building your roads and funding your schools.

On a related note, GIC manages past reserves, while government revenue is current reserves - this means that when this term of government ends, whatever leftover that the government has, if not given out as New New New Singapore Shares, will go into past reserves.

Singapore has no other resource, taxes become the main source, not many countries can think of or able to generate income from selling car (better than the car salesmen) :D

...the smartest a*s is all I can say...1 piece of paper(coe)...$80k...don't think proton can make half

as much even or any other countries.

Bro Kezg1,

20 years ago, I drove my new car to changi airport to pick up a American customer, during that 29 minutes drive to his Hotel at Westin Stamfort, he asked me how much I paid for my new car here then after hearing my answer, he :o responded with a loud doubtful voice "are you kidding me ! [:/] This freaking price is for a luxurious limousine in USA " [grin]

By the way, thanks for you P [nod]

reminds me of an old singapore joke...

Suharto: we started the Astra factory to assemble cars and it's making us 10mil USD a year

Mahathir: we started the Proton company to produce cars and it's making us 20mil USD a year

LKY: we bought a second hand printing machine and it's making us 200mil USD a year

Suharto and Mahathir: how did you manage to do it?

LKY: we use it to print COEs

what do u feel reading this time and again?

i feel angry and upset, and reinforces this image in my mind:

that the ruling party is a bunch of rich people who convene regularly (calling it parliament) to come up with ways and means to milk the most out of the people they are supposed to serve.

for a start, coe for goods vehicle, the backbone of our economy, and taxis.....

really stupid. but what do the rich care? cost just passed on to users....

i would say the taxes from vehicle related: 8% - is very significant.

compare: personal taxes (large popn base) - 13% - and vehicle owners also contribute to this.

even betting , 5% - loose.
