hi all, just got a 159, a few questions.

1) radio blocked/wait

ECU changed few mth ago and last owner forgot the code so any how press until radio blocked/wait msg shown, any inexpensive way to fix? he found the code now but its blocked and no way to enter the code

2) left side mirror unable to adjust, however some times it will auto tilt when in the R gear, motor prob or switch prob

3) fuel gauge showed empty with warning light on

the gauge shows totally empty 6'o clock with refill light on happened 3 times today and when start, limited rage shown, is that a common problem with the gauge or sensor or wire?

thanks in advance

2) tilt down is normal in R if ur selector is fixed to left or right. Make sure is in centre if u dun want it to happen.

Not sure abt why cannot adjust. Maybe cos Alfa.

3) not sure what u mean. Did u try pumping up?

Fuel gauge showing empty & warning - should have registered a error code in ECU, get the shop to read the code.

1. If it reads fuel additives detected - maybe you added too much STP injector cleaners

2. The fuel gauge circuitry is linked to the MAF - may need to remove, clean MAF then plug it back.

For point 2, shift the mirror switch to left and hold it there while adjusting. Works for me. Good luck :)

Recently encountered something new on my beloved 159- Have Engine Checked light came on.

Gone to AS, error was cleared but came back the next day. Went AS again and was told to live with it or they would diagnose which might cost lots of $$$$.

Decided to live with it and the light has been appearing on and off. Quite irritating but didn't seem to have any impact on the performance of the engine.

Any advice?

Spent quite a fair bit of $$$ oredy on battery, hydraulic arms for bonnet, front ball bearings and ......

And still enjoy driving it everyday [bounce1]

Neutral Newbie

for (1), you may wanna try disconnecting the battery for a while, before putting the terminal back again.

did not work, disconnected for 12hrs and still the same msg, i did some search online it seems the radio is in the locked mode and you have to either power it up till the wait period finish or send to someone unlock it.

The auto tilt function when engage reverse gear happens when you put the mirror adjustment selector to the left

I guess a trip down to a workshop is inevitable then.

let us know the outcome.

Neutral Newbie

went to the workshop, was told the only way is to power on the radio and wait, maybe 30hrs but battery will be flat, also read from other forum that the car will power off the bus after certain time to save battery , or i can let engine run for 30hrs but then i need to park the car at gas station... [smash]

such a small issue yet so much trouble, or the other way is to get the HU replaced. will call agent later to find out.

PM me your contact.

I changed out my original HU... its now in my storeroom

Hi guys!

Am new to the forum. Sold my Bravo T-Jet 1.4M and got myself an Alfa 159 2.2 Selespeed. All is good other than the jerky gearbox (especially during the down-shift from 3-2-1) and loving every bit of it. Had always been an Italian make fan and currently waiting for the new Giulia.  ^_^

Any tips on the jerky gearbox? Like changing to a racing gear oil or giving it some Liquid Moly Ceratec treatment? The ride will be perfect if the shifting is improved. Quite scary when the car jerks and lunges forward

Just swapped in a BMC CDA and deciding to the TMC Motorsport Engine & Gearbox Tuning. Anyone using it currently and any review?  [laugh]

Omg, send it back to the dealer. Selespeed is supposed to be smooth and seamless.....

Kidding. You know what you're getting into the minute you signed on the dotted line. Do a full maintenance on the selespeed. Skip all the racing oil stuff. And when you come to a stop, don't down shift, let the TCM do it for you from 3-2-1. It will be much smoother

Drive the car before tuning anything and get used to it first.

With 2ND hand cars, let alone Alfa, set your spare cash aside for potential maintenance work first.

Get your mods in after that.

Hi Saabretooth!

Thanks for the reply, you almost scared the hell outta me! Hahaha yeah you are right, i know what to expect the moment i decided to purchase. I know its not possible to rectify the jerkiness so am just looking for ways to better improve it. So the TMC really does work? Are you using it too? I bought the BMC for $150 bucks only from an ex Audi TT owner so its quite a steal, was using it in the bravo too and i like it so decided to change it for the Alfa also hehh.

Been driving it for a month now and loving it, especially with sports mode the upshift is shiokk! Do you use the neutral gear often? I kinda switch it to neutral once in awhile when approaching red light or when the car is stationary just to avoid the jerky downshift, will this damage the gearbox? Thanks for the advise! Shall drive and observe more first before i try to improve the handling and performance. :D
