For those driving the 159 3.2 Auto, does your gear 2 to 3 slip when the transmission is hot?

Yo bro,

Thanks for your post.

Not 3.2 here but googled and realised my "gear skipping" everytime actually is "gear slip" as you posted!!

At least now I have a professional term to use on EA when I send in for warranty...

Driving a 2.2 and mine can happen anytime...

Will monitor if heat got to do with it from now on!!

Cheers

:) I am learning a lot of terms so that I can google for knowledge. Never had to google so much for a car ....Alfa oh Alfa ...this love affair is demanding on patience.

Yep see if heat has to do anything? Mine car for the first 15-20 mins drive is smooth like silk....then it will get jerky when shift from 2-3 and 4-5

For the 2.2 maybe the clutch plate is on the way out? Need to check with the seniors

Sigh......

Kissed the back of another car at a zebra crossing 2 days before the CNY.

Luckily no one was injured and settled the case privately.

Now my bella's grill is broken [sweatdrop]

Any idea where to get a replacement?

All help welcome.

Oh, forgot to mention that my battery decided to got o heaven on the 5th day of CNY.

Funny thing was, it could not be jumpstarted and ended up visiting 2 locations in the tow truck to get a replacement at $220 (Bosch).

Alfa oh Alfa......

Not sure if it was just my imagination, car seemed to be more responsive after the battery change.

Probably just my hallucination [hur]cos I love the car too much

Goosh...not a very "Alfa" New Year huh ....how much did the tow truck charge you ...hopefully no CNY surcharge

For grill, can check out and ship in. But will need to drop 4 screws on bumper to replace it or buy and then get workshop to do it when servicing

A good and strong battery plays a part in how the car responds. but being an Alfa owner, you may tend to be a bit more sensitive to the differences.

That's why those with Battery conditioners/Voltage regulators...etc say they feel more power, its more like the real power is now accessed, when it was previously lost to heat and other energy sapping situations

yes, the 2.2 has a real clutch, so depending on your real world driving conditions, you might or might not get clutch slip earlier than others.

p/s I don't think you can claim warranty from EA cause this is a wear and tear part, like your brake pads...

For those driving the 159 3.2 Auto, does your gear 2 to 3 slip when the transmission is hot?

1. your torque converter could be ready to go out the window.

2. when you put the car into reverse, does the car jerk even before you move off?

BINGO .....yes it does (Clonk + Jerk) especially after a hot drive. When it is within 15 mins, reverse/park has no CLONK sound. But when it is hot.....the clonk sound is visible. when very hot.....CLONK is loud.

Going to google on this Torque converter

ok, you're going to feel a bit of pain in the next few sentences.. so please sit and breathe deep....

1. you might need to recon your gearbox.

- anywhere from 2-4k.

- 5k if its really BAD and you'll need to exchange one gearbox for another

- you may ask them to get your stronger stuff for your recon gearbox, to handle more power.

2. install an additional ATF cooler first, to see how the car responds. it will be a temporary fix. Its like giving a handyplast to a person who cut his artery... short term fix.

3. you'll need the new ATF cooler anyways, even with the recon gearbox, so have longevity....

that's my suggestion, cause it seems you've replaced the fluids already.

My breathe stopped...............Alfa oh Alfa

Yep. After our last conversation. I already hunt down a transmission specialist who can fix up the Hyden ATF cooler. Will share update later.

Today just discover the Engine Coolant is somehow leaking again (after replacing the upper hose). Red Paraflu is seen.

Do let me know how your transmission fix goes (i may want to fix up an additional ATF cooler) incase

On a side note, i just had my engine coolant totally flushed. After a drive when i open the bonnet, my Engine Coolant tank appears below the minimum level. I would top it up with normal water till its at the max but it still appears to go below the min level each time after a drive (it remains at this min level and doesn't go below). Any idea if there is a leak?

Yesterday i was prompted to add engine oil as it was below the min level (this happened to me only once before in 2013 with Mobil 1 Oil) any idea what could be wrong?

<ATF Cooler>

Roger. will share info asap. This week need to serve the country first

<Engine Coolant>

This happened to me when I took over the car and send to AS for my 1st servicing. Replaced the coolant + upper radiator hose leak and after servicing drove off. Engine overheat the next day and realized the coolant went very low. P told me to go back to the next day asap. Went back, he top up + drive out of workshop/come back + top up about 3-4 times until the coolant is finally topped up. It seems that you need to "Drive" to get all the coolant into the system and top up until max.

Check after parking overnight to see if there are "red" water spots at the bottom, if yes paraflu is leaking.

Right now I have a bottle of 2.5l water stand by to top up until I go in to check where else is leaking

Alfa oh Alfa.....

<Engine oil>

No exp just yet

my radiator hose seems to be ok and my car has never overheated with my problem described, no "red" water spots on the floor as well.

when P topped it up, was it with water or with coolant?

During servicing it was 50/50 paraflu .....after that when I went back he top with water. He say water is ok.

My engine overheat was because I whack the next day after I got the car thinking the servicing was done and everything ok lol.....only when I pop the bonnet by the side of the road and saw the coolant was way below min and then I call P to tell him.

What is the mileage of your car?

There might be multiple leaks as all the hoses are aged. I also had hose leaking issues before. It took a while before I resolve the problem. As precaution I changed out most of the coolant hoses.

Happened to me too after replacing coolant pipe, the next day level drop. Technician said due to air bubbles and helped me bleed the air out. After that the coolant level never dropped at all after 2 months now with several drives to Malaysia. Coolant leak may also leave orangy powdery residue around the pipes, check around with a torchlight.
