Premature Tyre Wear On Is250

Hi all,

need some advise on premature tyre wear. I had complained my tyres being very noisy with the "helicopter sound" and sent car for check.

Was told that my tyres are "eating" on the inner part.

Now my 4 tyres are gone (less than 1yr). I am trying to find out what is the problem so that my new set of tyres wont have the same problem.

I changed to 225/45/r17 all round for purpose of rotating but I had also been told by 1 w/s that I have to be on 245/45/r17 on the rear so there wont be uneven wear. He said it is because the car rear comes originally cambered out by default and if the tyre is too thin, uneven wear sets in.

any advises?

yeah for IS250 the rear tyres should be wider. using 225/45/17 all round will affect the handling, esp when pushing limits.

 

when u said your tyres are worn out in less than a year, what is the mileage covered? some cars cover 40k km a year, some only 10k km a year... and what tyres were they? some tyres have low threadwear rating.

 

as the previous poster said, chk alignment settings. Perhaps too much camber? Chk toe as well?

 

significant tyre wear can be seen easily with the naked eye. Did you see it yourself or left it to workshop? was the inner wear smooth or jagged?

 

 

assuming all 4 inner shoulders are wearing much faster than normal:

if using different sized tyres for front and back, apart from the normal left-right tyre rotation (which still wears the inner shoulder more), one other way is to get the tyre shop to dismount the tyres from rims and swap it around so that the old "inner" part becomes the new "outer" part. If unidirectional tyre, bring it to the other side of the car. If non-directional, can use back on the same side. Sorry it's a bit hard to explain in text....

(Oh, some tyres have defined "inside" and "outside" sidewalls, so check that too. This usually applies to asymmetric tyres. if so, the abovementioned rotation style cannot be done. Think of the recent F1 debacle when teams were using righthand side tyres on the left... haha)

Mileage covered is abt 20k only.

 

Uneven wear was told to me by 2 different workshops. I duno hw to see how i do see the inner side is thinner than the outer..

Try pumping higher tyres pressure...like 38 psi...
