Darthrevan Supercharged October 4, 2013 Share October 4, 2013 The existing bus priority measures, such as bus lanes and Mandatory Give Way to Buses (MGWTB), will be extended to more locations island-wide. From mid-October, there will be another 25 kilometres of bus lanes -- with Kampong Bahru Road, Lorong 6 Toa Payoh and Orchard Boulevard among the first new stretches. Currently, there are 23 kilometres of full-day bus lanes, and 155 kilometres of normal bus lanes. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said with the completion of new bus lanes by end-2013, there will be about 200 kilometres of bus lanes island-wide. From November, the Mandatory Give Way to Buses scheme will be implemented at another 135 bus bays. When completed by end-2014, about 300 bus stops will be covered under the scheme. LTA said the expansion of the bus priority measures are aimed at improving overall reliability and speeds of buses, so that commuters can experience more regular waiting times. It will also complement the ongoing Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP), where additional buses will be added. LTA said by improving bus reliability, it will help shorten overall bus journey time and make public transport more attractive. Locknload 5th Gear October 4, 2013 Share October 4, 2013 Just hope that they allow longer distances for cars to turn either left / right as some of these bus lanes are too close for vehicles to filter and turn.

Nzy Twincharged October 4, 2013 Share October 4, 2013 IIRC it isn't illegal for bus to drive outside the bus lane right? Noticed that TP also don't bother if they encounter bus outside bus lane.

It is simply ridiculous at some busy junctions.. buses wanna fliter right, cars wanna filter left.. and all has to take place within that what.. 10m space? Kb27 Supersonic October 5, 2013 Share October 5, 2013 (edited) Bus lanes are poorly designed. It seems LTA contractors just come and paint dots and dashes x metres before or after every junction. They don't care how busy that junction is, nor how cars going to turn left and buses wanting to go straight. They only have one justification in mind. Buses carry more people than cars, so they must have priority at all costs. Edited October 5, 2013 by Kb27

Some even filter to centre lane as though they've the right of way. Making 2 lane for bus during peak hour. Ya. I do agree. Some times when the dotted -line lane is crowded, quite a few bus drivers filter to centre lane.. Especially when they filtering to the centre lane, it may cause unnecessary jam as a result.... Mgmgphyo 1st Gear October 5, 2013 Share October 5, 2013 singapore is too small to have lanes for buses only. IMO part of the road is totally wasted during peak hours.

Nzy Twincharged October 5, 2013 Share October 5, 2013 Purpose of having bus lanes is to encourage ppl to use public transport ma. If u take bus and its faster than driving then you might choose to take the bus more often right? For me sometimes when travelling on those roads that are always congested, I find taking a bus alot faster as it doesn't get held up by the jam.
Rustyz 5th Gear October 5, 2013 Share October 5, 2013 Just install siren on buses la.no need paint here and there. Why thourouhfare into the city centre like Duneran/Bt Timah where many buses transit through got no bus lanes, when outskirts and sub-urbans all kena bus-laned? LTA please wake up! Honest what is the pro of such implementation? What I see is that with this bus lane or without, our buses are still not able to run on time and is jam packed like hell. The only pro is that driver work is less stressful and more funding(ERP and fine) Fine we driver give a lane for the bus, would that mean that LTA can promise us that the bus will be not sardine pack and run on time. SG bus timing is suka suka one.
Glyuen 3rd Gear October 5, 2013 Share October 5, 2013 if they have bus lanes, the bus drivers jolly well drive in it! nowadays see so many bus drivers machiam like F1. overtake each other, not wanting to drive in bus lane even though bus lane is clear. super gangster. ↡ Advertisement
