Some instant memories

- On an exercise in Starlight, a guy fell asleep on a tombstomb and had chinese words 'inscribed' onto his cheek the next morning

- On topo exercise in Starlight - getting free instant noodles from friendly locals

- overnight exercise on hill next to Pasir Laba camp facing the fence into NTU. Path next to the fence was littered with garbage and used condoms!

Got one starlight exercise where the whole battalion was stationed around a village. Alpha was stationed in a cemetary n at first nobody wants to rest inside the grave compound. As the morning drags on every one of us slowly made our way to sleep inside the graves compound as it was cold and the wind were really blowing hard. But after 4 am everyone of us was outside the graves compound. Never talked about it until reservist time in taiwan and it seems that everyone of us had nitemares while sleeping inside the compound......

There are more memories than nightmares....admist the training, there is always certain times of the day which i particularly look forward to...

1) Smoking breaks

2) A quiet moment during outfield training where you lie on your jeep/veh and just relax...

3) Talk c--k among platoon mates over breakfast and ciggies

4) Picnic/Cooking with all the can food and maggie noodles

Lucky u! My time no instant noodles allowed. All combat ration...dog biscuit, sardines, braised chicken, baked beans, lemonade and best off all the ovaltine biscuits and chocolate! But we always managed to smuggle out maggi for the exercises.

I got a bunk oni!!! That time i passed by Guillemard n they had cut a rd through the camp n i actually can see the bunk i slept in 25 yrs ago. Very nostalgic! The rd had cut through my units rear gate and through the medical centre which led to the front facing Broadrick secondary school. I think it will be the last time i see that place before it got torn down.

I used to stay somewhere near the camp. I remembered in the early 80s, can hear the blowing of a horn??? at around 10 or 11pm every night except weekends.

i realised during NS i could just sleep anywhere

last time 3-tonner didn't have those safety belts... my platoon bochup just anyhow slept on the planks inside the tonner while it was travelling to the exercise site at the godly hour of 3am

if got accident, sure flew off one

i also slept UNDERNEATH the tonner a few times

quite dangerous now that i think of it [laugh]

Yes...thats the main gate n the building on the left were echo coy....the 1st floor are the snco mess. The empty space on the right were once the guardroom, and the db. Further down the empty lot were the mt line. Can barely make out a coy building at the oppo end. Not sure about the blare but most prob were the times we went on battalion exercise as it was the signal to move out.
