Sorry, what's Cat 4 roads?

I have conflicting thoughts on the pedestrians leh, sometimes I think that those who play handphone when crossing the zebra crossing, and never even look up should learn a lesson, else they will continue their attitude, other times, I think, aiyah, if they kena bang, they will just complain, and driver, even if in the right of way, also tio. TP should catch and fine these type of people also lor, then post on Facebook..

See so many ppl here agreeing that driving fast speed kill myth, but really miss the point on why it is advice to have slower speed.

the rational is not because drive slow will have no accident. the reason is if you have accident in fast speed, it is likely to be more fatal than having accident in slow speed.

the reason for low speed at certain junction (eg.school zone) is plainly to reduce the fatalility of accident when it happen.

Actually, that's a stupid rational. If that's the rational, why autobahn got no speed limit?

It is juz because there are loads of incompetent drivers out there. When rain falls, cars from lane 1 to 4 on PIE drives at 50km/h. That's 1 of the dumb thing to do.

I beg to disagree. I have driven on an autobahn, once, in an Audi, between Frankfurt and Dusseldorf . These roads are specially engineered and are very safe at speeds well above 200 kmh. A german friend, having driven on our expresswzys, commented that they are poor, with many undulations and poor camber. These affects road holding at high speed ( told him that was why our speed limit is only 90 kmh!) Hence autobahns have no speed limits because of their design and are for efficient link between major German cities. Strict lower speed limits apply at stretches approaching towns with turn offs and merging lanes. Its also because there is no speed limit that the only Jap cars are the large cc or sports.

But agree about imcompetent drivers. Like you i never can fathom why the slighest bit of rain can also so much difficulty in local drivers maintaing expressway speeds. Iincompetent or poor driving skills.

so you knock into someone at 100km/hr and knock into someone at 20km/hr which one more fatal? its basic physic not even a rational. higher speed when met with accident will be more fatal that is facts. do note that I didn't say higher speed mean more accident.

BTW, autobann also have accident. I don't think I saw a merc as chui if its going at 90km/hr

Takes only 1 bugger to make everyone stuck.

I think a lot of SG drivers really suck... a bit of rain only accidents and jam reported everywhere.

I concur. and worse is insist of stick to lane 1. just move to lane 2 or 3 if u are going to slow down in the rain.

been to Jakarta recently, their jam take 3 hours just to move across the town. 3 lane become 5 and 4 lane become 7 and yet, didn't see a single accident while I am there.

I fully agree that some of our eways r crap. [nosebleed]

The design n maintenence is crap. [nosebleed]

And I always read in the papers that we have very good eways. [shakehead]

I wonder who is responsible for the design cos I feel even the NSHW although only 2 lanes is so much better than ours.

LOL! I know. estate roads have more traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and are narrower generally - speed limits drop. Add cyclists, illegally parked vehicles, they make for much slower riding.

for expressways, I am awake all the time - i cannot afford to be lax, even if there are not many cars.

They are rethinking the 'no speed limit rule' in the Autobahn as they are the only country with no speed limits. Accidents to be be dramatic and quite fatal.

Hahahahaha...

IMHO...some of the urban speed is a bit slow...50kmh in a 2 lane road make sense...but 3 lane road is dun make sense...at least 60kmh.

I have no issue with TP making ambush...but there was a time when you just go slightly above the speed limit...they nail you with their new digital cameras...when it was fine last time when the traffic cops rode pass you without batting an eyelid.

Some are 70km/hr

The speed limit is base on the location of the road rather than the number of lane. For obvious reason.

Hougang got 3 lanes...but speed limit is 60 or 50 nia...TP snipers like to hide there take peektures one.

Clementi Ave 6 was only 60kmh...then they change to 70kmh.

IMHO...traffic flow is dynamic...if use static data to control...it will be a mess. Driving 50-60kmh on a 50kmh road is ok...if the condition permits. But not so strict...above 5-6kmh only summon lah.

dont think 5-6kmh will kenna bah?? Unless accident prone area? Cause i usually kenna warning.

Those are with 70kmh usually are places where they dont expect ppl to jay walk. Hence whole stretch from of boon lay way 70kmh.

Note, i also think 50kmh too slow. Good example is expot outside 4 lane but 50kmh nia.
