My car battery died yesterday, and I went to Autobacs to replace the battery.   In the end, they told me that my alternator is not working and needs to be replaced.   The quotation is quite high and out of my expectations, it is around 1160S$ including labor charges.   But I feel they are not honest and would like to seek advice in this forum.

And here are some excerpt of the data.

Battery Test (the brand new replaced battery)
Volts: 12.99V
Measured 483 CCA
Rating: 405CCA

Starter Test
Cranking Normal
Cranking 11.39V
Time 0.74S

Charging test:
Low output
No Load : 13.72V
Loaded : 12.93V

In case of this, Do I need to replace the alternator?  If I don't, what will happen to my car?  Any safety issue?
Thanks

Its a Sunday, must expect Sunday price mah. Just go to a stockist buy and go to your regular mech.

You might also want to get a 2nd opinion. I just do not trust Autobacs or Spark etc

I see othi g wrong with your alternator.

Charging test says it all.

Sorry to ask it more because I am a familiar about this.

First, my car has to be deregistrated within next 2.5 years ( It is an old car and renewed 5 years COE, there only have 2.5 years remains).

2nd, based on this situation, Is it necessary to repair the alternator?   Is the alternator doesn't charge the batter at all OR it is still charging the battery but not strong enough and this may reduce the battery life?   If it is charging the battery but without enough charging, how long for a new batter can last in such condition?     I would like to estimate which is more valuable for me.
Thanks.

no safety issue till your new battery gives up and the car stalls.

1160 is crazily expensive for an alternator.

Yes, the alternator need to be fixed. It is barely charging the battery.

Over the long term, the battery will go flat, and it won't turn over the engine.

Find a w/s to repair or replaced with a re-con one.
