Front lower arm and suspension questions

The car is fine when I took delivery.

 

It happens only after 20,000 km when I did tyre rotation - it veers slightly to the left. AD adjusted for me, and it manage to go straight.

 

The same thing happen again at 30,000 km.

 

Recently I changed my tyre sat 32,000 and did a free wheel alignment. And it happens again after the alignment. The mech at the tyre shop did a few rounds of re-alignment for me and still couldn't get it straightened. That is when he notice the gap differential between the FR & FL wheel.

 

The car has been accident-free, and neither have I hit any curbs before. I may have hit some minor potholes along the way, but nothing serious.

 

Wonder whether it is due to the lower arm issue?

 

The fender issue might be deal to faulty absorber check for leaks, if not your fender might be bend since you do not have accident or human error, probably use a long ruler to measure is a better choice.

 

For the tyres pulling part some tyre manufacturer have batches of tyres that have manufacturing defect which will pull no matter what you do, offical term is call radial pull. i have a set of falken 912 that pulls forever to the left. The only thing that you can do is just swap the front tyres. FR to FL and FL to FR see if the pull lessen if you are using asymmetric tyres or change it if not live with it till tyre change or swap to the back.

 

At 20k mileage, the chances of lower arm bush failure is too low unless there is a manufacturing defect.

1. Unless you drove over a brick or something like that, unlikely the lower arm is damaged/cracked.

 

2. If the suspension is kinda "loose", changing the worn-out bushes might help. To install new bushes your WS may have to go to someone else with the special machine that can push the bushes out (and push in the new ones), i.e. additional costs. Thus it might be cheaper just to replace the whole arm that comes with new bushes.

given the availability & level of equipment, and the competency of our local ws, it b better to replace whole arm instead of just bushing - quicker & doesn't cost significantly more than the bushings.

Look at it this way, if u r running a workshop biz... Is it more convenient to order new parts from stockist and recon parts from someone else in the biz of refurbishing (like taking an arm with worn out bushing & insert in new ones) or to order the bushings on demand and to replace it for your customers?

 

The workshop might not even be able to find the components as and when they need it.... But there will be businesses that supply all those new or refurbished parts

When i drive my Peugeot 207, there is a loud clanking sound like the below part of my wheels gonna break anytime. Should i ignore or change something there? Suspension is fine bcoz i go over humps no issues. Just when drive the sound is bad. Anyone knows what could be the reason before i go to the WS? Thks

Have you checked your wheel arch liner? It could be clunking against the drive shaft.

I called the dealer coz i just bought it a week ago. He said the lower arm bar worn out need to change. Bcoz test drive time petrol they keep on reserve so i cldnt test on open road. So now roughly i know whats the issue so in case the WS later say so many thing spoil. Thks all those who nice enough to respond with positive feedback. Appreciate

Is it still under warranty? If it is, no reason not to send it back for a peace of mind.

Guys, do you have any suspension repair specialist WS to recommend?

 

My car has  clunking sound (undercarriage) when it go slow. More prominent when I step on the brake or turn slowly.

 

I suspect tie rods have issue. My car is about 9 years (Mazda 6) , never change any suspension parts before (so about time!)

 

Went to 3 recommended "star merchants" last Monday.

 

First one, after 10 minutes of looking at my undercarriage, told me to change whole steering rack. $2500 job. Well, maybe he is right, but that is akin of asking me to go for a major heart surgery after just 10 minutes of hearing my heartbeat. I think I will go for 2nd opinion first

 

2nd star merchant has a young chap look disinterested. He did take a test ride with me around his WS, came back, raise up car, dunno what he turn here and there, went for test drive himself, came back ask me to go back Thursday so that they can remove the whole tire to check the suspension. 

 

3rd star merchant, another young chap, but at least he look more interested. He drove the car with me in it, tell me has to change entire suspension (stabilizer links, control arm, springs, etc). Tell me go back Thursday so that can raise the car up to check cos WS very busy that day.

 

All 3 star merchants doesn't leave a good opinion in me. Maybe they are too busy cos they are "star merchants". 

 

So does anyone knows of some older mechanics (nothing against young mechanics, but we know repair experience comes with age, not enthusiasm) who knows how to check suspension issue? They don't have to be star merchants.
