Altivo 3rd Gear August 28, 2013 Share August 28, 2013 (edited) i am asking for a father on this parenting issue... if you have kids in pre-school (or pri 1) and you are living with your parents. Your dad loves to watch some violent shows or movies in the evening, shows like NCIS and living dead, which has mixed of violent, dead bodies, gross images, sex, etc. which you think may would have bad influence or negative impact on the young kids. So the issue is do you think it is ok for kids of this age (8 and below) to watch these shows or you should stop your dad from watching shows when the kids are around? at least till the kids are in bed. My boy goes to my parents place after childcare. I will pick him up at 830 pm after my work. As my parents are retired, they do nothing but turn on the TV the whole day which would be showing mostly HK/TW/KR dramas. My boy is 4 yo now, he is able to understand to some degree on what the TV program is showing. Just a few months back, he was describing to my wife how a policeman shot a baddie and there was blood all over. So after some discussion, we decided to buy a few kids DVD eg: Mickey mouse clubhouse, Barney, Cat in the Hat etc and bring them over to my parents place. He will watch his DVDs in the room while they can watch their TV drama outside in the hall. Usually, grandparents are more receptive to cooperate if you offer some help/solution. Don't just tell them "Don't let ah boy do this! Don't let ah boy do that" without offering them an alternative activity. Give them a solution. And weekends will always be family day. I only meet my friends once every 3-4 months.

Tjkbeluga 5th Gear August 28, 2013 Share August 28, 2013 I don't get too worried about what the kids can see on cable TV - Singapore standards are rather restrictive, and if it is on any of the channels I wouldn't (and don't) worry very much about it. Quite true... It's not like they show Dexter, Hannibal or Orange is the new Black drama here....

Altivo 3rd Gear August 28, 2013 Share August 28, 2013 you are very involved and take actions Thanks! Still a learning process for wifey and me. But an advice, don't let kids watch too much TV even if it is educational programs. No good. So other than DVDs, we also give him lots of paper and crayons + legos/megablocks!
