Ate very little durians this year vs same time last year.

Earlier got black/burnt seed issue and quality not so good, so avoided and thought wait for season to get into more mature July/Aug peak but that didn't quite materialize yet. This year's harvest seems usually erratic and small (JB). Don't know why. Delayed Pahang season?

Hope quality will pick up in Aug/Sep with lower prices. Prices this week is exceptionally high.

One of them is sticky with coffee flavour with big seeds. The other two are sweet with shrunken seeds and flesh % rivalling MSW.

Bonus: thin core and thin shell so there's a lot of meat.

----

Thought it feels and tastes like D24 but the shell doesn't resembles D24.

The durian seller was unhelpful too while insisting that it was red prawn.

It might be a b**tardised version of D24.

@Tianmo any ideas what durian is this?

Former Red prawn latter MSW.

Just buy MSW although it cost a little bit more.

The quality has definitely improved.

Another box of free ah lian but honestly, quality is lacking.

I am still hoping that our durian mu can take place soon but look like no more good durian for this season liao...

Still along way for China to produce decent taste durians for their domestic market. The first harvest are all young trees, quality not so good. How many more years will they become 老树 ? 20 years, 30?

https://www.scmp.com/lifestyle/food-drink/article/3229585/how-does-chinas-first-home-grown-durian-taste-not-great-post-finds-out

How does China’s first home-grown durian taste? Not great, the Post finds out

China’s much-anticipated first major durian harvest recently took place and the Post’s Shea Driscoll managed to get his hands on one of the spiky fruits

But the taste and smell were just a faint facsimile of a ‘proper’ durian, while the texture was more reminiscent of an unripe banana at times

Like what bro Hamburger advocates...to beat heatiness from too much ah lian...eat even more till the body accustom to it 😅
