So is the XO really bitter?

Yes, really bitter. I will try MSWs next and see if this season's, they are as bitter or more bitter than these XOs.

Uncle been opening n packing durians for customers and his woollen gloves came into contact with the various husks. Hence, you get the dirty look, I mean "deposits" here 😅

when i buy durian, I always tell them not to dehusk. I will bring back the whole durian to dehusk it myself . Pay attention to the way they dehusk, their gloves(if any) , their fingers all come into contact with the durian fruits, I can save them the effort to dehusk it myself.

Yes, that's true.

He's gloved on one hand and the ungloved other hand is holding the knife. Once he "plate" the row of pods/seed/fruit on knife, transfer to box then proceed with other side.

The gloved hand will hold the spiky husk and once cleared, he will then hold the middle of durian to pry open the compartment, machiam treasure hunt. 😂 That's when the gloved hand will come into contact with the interior but now void of any pods.

I prefer mine dehusk so easier to reject, if any, unripe/spoilt/wormed eaten pod on the spot. Sometimes, will have it replaced for a new one or discount given.

Of course, if one is a regular, can feedback and still get discount or even given another fruit as free replacement.

No pic but when the half husk was opened, 6 more seeds/pods/fruits were inside 👍😋

Stay safe

Cheers

Yes, the $12/kg one the thorns are too pointy to be MSW. MSW thorns are more like pyramid. Probably D101 trying to pass off as MSW.

Both Tan and Cai shared some tips on how to identify Mao Shan Wang:

Mao Shan Wang has a distinct five-line star-like pattern at the base.

Mao Shan Wang durian thorns are not densely packed, the shape of the thorns resembles a pyramid and appears more three-dimensional.

Mao Shan Wang can have big seeds, not long and thin all the time.

Some sellers may say that the star pattern for a particular durian is smaller, which may be an attempt to mislead customers as the star pattern on Mao Shan Wang durians are extremely distinct, Cai added.

Finally went to the AMK Good Durian stall to get some [laugh]

Grade B, $18 per kg.

Ask the seller which one better , and he told me same, just size different.

This 2 box from 3 fruit total weight almost 4kg.

Fruit has strong smell and nice creamy texture, dry, but not too dry till throat feel dry type.

Durian that are slightly more watery = more powerderful smell=pungent if some may say.

Those dry dry kam pao type, less pungent hence less shiok to eat.

I was at penang durian plantation and tried those fresh and super kum pao type. Not impressed.

Felt like eating bread.

Different types of durian have their own characteristics. Some durians, especially the kan pao type, must not be eaten immediately after they fall from the tree. They would taste a bit raw. It would be best to eat them the next day.

Din notice but likely distant cousin until spikes went haywire too. V distant 🤭😂

U probably right though, last night got distracted by the XOs so just took pictures.

The prices here for MSWs quite ex even though it's from Pahang. JB ones are cheaper.

I likely to try "99 old trees" (Owen Rd) or the new entrant Louis Lee Durians also at Owen Road for MSWs. AMK Good Durians too if I in the area.

Happy eating durians. Bumper crops this season. 👍😋

Stay safe

Cheers

I actually resisted making such a silly pun then you come spoil market. Very thorny fella like you. But I'm sure you're soft and creamy inside. 😁
