Used Car Dealer Increase Price

I am also monitoring the market to probably change my ride to a preowned.

One good example of irrational pricing for preown is this:

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=394478&DL=2194

When I first started looking at this a few weeks back, it was 77.8k, then it dropped to 76.8k and now it increased to 78.8k !

Simply no logic in used car pricing. All prospective preowned cars buyer have to do their homework diligently.

Cheers!

bro....keep me in the loop. 2 friends of mine looking to change their ALtises of 2004....

i hv 2005 altis

wanna buy or not... cheap

parf + 1.5 yr depreciation LOL

actually it goes both ways. Cos now my may 08 altis still can get above 40k for trade in. When i paid 67k for it...

Of course they still earn.

But many 2nd hand car now the depreciation is terrible. Quite close to new cars esp Cat A cars. Sigh...

I'm looking to sell off my 2008 altis. Hopefully can find someone to buy hehe.

take Parf plus number of years left x yearly depreciation

say 10k + 4yrs x 8K depreciation

u can ask for 50K at least according car dealer logic

2005 altis scrapping next year le, if buy now then have to worry to look for car again 1 year plus later!

If I get used car, at least must get 08 onwards.

Agree. Have to do homework.

Not necessary worth to buy used cars from these dealers. I see many 2 years old C180 with about the same depreciation as new C180. [thumbsdown]

Think right now, even cars with 1 or 2 years left is sold at 6-7K per year depreciation but dealers take in at scrap value+body only.

Dun see the price softening cos there is demand. alot of car owners are turning to 2nd hand cars, esp those die die want to drive ones but not willing or cannot affotd brand new. The demand is the result of the price resistance which is likely to continue.

better to buy new when COE supply is high so as to catch the wave again 10 years later

rather than buy an 08 car and then find the COE prices too high again 4 years later when car is due to scrap

New car can buy only if you are cash rich, cause need to pay the 40-50% downpayment in cash of the car price. This is the reason that deter so many people from switching to used car, cause if buy used car the most downpayment you are paying is 20-30k.

A vast majority, like myself, anticipate that the COE will drop to around 30K range in 3 years time. Assuming the hypothesis is true, buying a relatively high preowned car now with dp around 10K make alot of sense. Because in 3 years time, you will enjoy an absolute saving of 30K-40K in COE premium. That equates to driving the preown car free for 3 years! IMHO, this is one major factor that keeps the preowned car price high at this point of time.

2 groups of vast majorities, one group just bought or bought when COE is high, they are hoping COE would not drop. Another group, whose cars are approaching D-day soon and they are hoping COE would drop.

Bottomline, if you are able to afford a new car without having sleepless night, buy it, as you only live once, live life without regrets

If new car is not affordable, there are always alternatives.

In other countries, they are worried if they are able to live another day or have their daily bread, here in SG, we are uniquely worrying the price of CoE.

With apps like Uber or GrabTaxi, why would anyone worry about losing the convenience of car ownership?

Oh, it's the face value yah?

Now for that app to indicate your wealth status!

Are you a car owner yourself ?

Car ownership gives you the flexibility to decide how , when you want to travel from point A to B and detour if needs arises .

Face vales? Perhaps .. it is the convenience that count.

Why would the group who just bought when the COE is high hoping COE would not drop leh?

This is a very selfish yet stupid way of thinking.

They are given a choice to wait or buy. They chose the latter and now they are crying over this?

Life is always this way.. U can't win it everytime .

Since you have bought it, just enjoy the car and if COE is diving to a level which trigger you to go in and buy another new car, go for it then!
