I drive a diesel and I don't encourage people to buy diesel car. Anyway, diesel car offering is getting less.

As long as diesel car population remain low, then garment probably won't take drastic action. If 30% of the car population is diesel, then it is a different story. Last year, they even give us a small incentive $100.

When I drive my 2L MPV, I need 60L petrol every week lor, so about 3000L a year.

Now I drive 1.7L diesel, I need 60L diesel every 2 week lor, so about 1500L a year lor.

As for emission, we are currently on par and generally it is VES B, at least for my car.

As for the Kia Carens, I was told Kia just EOL it loh, it is now a collectors' item ....... haha.

GC4, 5008 stop diesel model as I doubt they can get VES B, as UK LTA has shown. I wrote something about it.

So, please don't buy diesel and there is not much offering anyway.

Yalor

Knn so many people say diselseln good petrol bad

Govt tax come liao lah see lah

And the torque that come along with the diesel engine.

My previous 2l turbo petrol produced 310nm. FC 7km/l.

Current 2l turbo diesel produces 430nm. FC 14km/l.

Hi,

Would like to know how many will consider buying a EuroIV diesel car instead of the normal petrol car?

The first consideration is of coz diesel car gives better mileage and maybe cheaper daily running cost.

While car uses petrol is kind of rather standard on the cost of daily running.

Your comments and thoughts plzzzzz... biggrin.gif

hybrid car is more popular nowadays.

Let me share my experience . I used to drive Volvo V40 Diesel . One full tank at SMART energy cost me 50 bucks and get me a mileage of about 750-800km per 40l tank.

I changed to Honda Fit Hybrid , one full tank of Ron95 cost me 50 bucks also and get me a mileage of 750-800km as well but the diff is I’m running on a 32l tank.

Whenever the Volvo have problem a bill usually come up to min 1k , highest I encounter is 7k for fuel pump plus injector and Piston.

My previous Jap car Honda Stream got me a mileage of 300k for 9 years without major issue just normal wear and tear.

My point here is , if u are getting a diesel car , likelihood it’s conti and the repair cost when come to u, your balls will sweat . Conti car are really nice to drive solid and shiok but for peasant like me , I just go back to my simple fuss free car can alr

Diesel:

Pros - More low-end torque (i.e less revving needed to get job done), better fuel efficiency (lean burn), easier and safer storage of fuel (petrol is a freaking explosion hazard)

Cons - More expensive to buy and maintain, more frequent servicing interval compared to petrol, fuel efficiency not necessarily better than a petrol-hybrid, need to manage Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Adblue

Petrol:

Pros - enjoy a good rev but needs to be revved to really get going, easier to find pump stations with petrol than diesel, petrol hybrids give good low-end torque (motors have instantaneous torque) and good fuel economy, simpler set-up (petrol engines don't need funky high-pressure piezo-electric injectors, etc)

Cons - tend to have weaker low-end torque if talking about conventional ICE, transporting spare petrol in a container is a freaking explosion hazard

As in all products, there r pros n cons of both diesel as well as petrol.

Just choose what suits u.

No need to talk down one over the other n as they say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison

Hybrid car is good no denying but it’s costly so upfront have to pay more which not all of us can afford unfortunately n hence there are different offerings ie petrol, diesel, hybrid, electric etc to suit the various segments.

You just didn't get the right diesel engine.

Volvo D2 is one of the lousy diesel engine. D4 will be good.

That why I choose a Korean Diesel, previously all my petrol Jap and Korean car have ZERO towing lor (of course accident don't say la).  The best part, the engine FC never even degrade for the whole 10 years lor.

First year track OK for my Korean Diesel, nothing light up, I never even got a chance to see the DPF warning light up lor.

Not quite true about more frequent servicing.. Or u are referring to expensive parts?

From what I have been reading, diesel oil change interval is about the same as petrol.

My diesel car went further.. the change interval to 34k km or 2 years

The con from my experience is obviously the tapping sound from the engine.

And the low rpm range. Red line at 5k only. Buay song when u need to play or go downhill with enough engine braking

On the wage thingy... They have been encouraging people to upgrade. Otherwise we can't compete.

Of course, what we choose to upgrade plays an important part.. To keep our jobs or to get a hike.

Long time ago a project manager having a pmp cert was able to get a hike. Now it is usually the basic requirement.

Get a Diesel only if your mileage is really high or you doing Grab. Else a Petrol engine is more fun and enjoyable, quieter and refine compare to Diesel.

On a Diesel engine, the power band rpm is only from 2k to 4k, beyond that, car does'nt pull much anymore. For high speed driving, this is not fun at all!

For diesel, you must have some knowledge in cars else you can't identify any early car problem symptoms. Common issues are white smoke and black smoke. But current Diesel engine are all Euro 5 and above with DPF system. Imagine your car has some slight problem which result to in black/white smoke, all these does not shows as all black smoke are contain in the DPF. Then in no time you encounter block DPF and spend money on replacing DPF without identifying the real issues here.
