Will u buy Diesel or Petrol Cars in SG

As I had previously mentioned in MCF, it's the NOx and PM2.5 of diesel emissions will see the eventual demise of diesel passenger cars in SG. ðð¼

The NEA / SG garmen is clearly very concerned on the proliferation of these oil burners on our roads. Not much support there. ðð¼

And the relentless reduction of NOx and PM limits introduced by the EU, going from Euro5 to Euro6 emissions specs and beyond, will be a constant scourge to car manufacturers eyeing to push for diesel passenger car sales growth! It will be a continued uphill climb for them, that's gonna be costly (R&D) with dwindling ROI, as the governments of the world continue to intervene ðð¼

1 2nd that. Alot of manufacturer uses small cc engine with some smart programing to meet the regulatory test, like recently another A brand admitted that their car if know that they in a test environment, will up shift quicker so that it reaches optimal emission much faster, in a manner driver wouldnt want.

End up, its going to be really expensive for them to R&D now. All these company are profit driven.Assuming they had always beem cheating, and now regulation wants to enforce euro 6 standard in real world condition

End result, either they buy their way thru regulator to scrap euro 6, come out with smarter cheating device, or scrap diesel passenger car........

i would want a diesel car as well...

but more cons...

diesel is cheaper but maintenance is slightly costlier

road tax for a diesel car is higher

where did you get that diesel maintenance is costlier?

diesel has no spark plugs. no plugs to replace. no ignition coils to replace. in fact no entire ignition system to worry about. i've been driving diesel 3 years, all I change is my underwear, engine oil, oil filter and air filter. nothing else.

I thought there is a glow plug for starting the engine?

Glow plug doesn't start the engine.

It's to heat up the combustion chamber to make it easier to start during cold weather.

Diesel is compression engine. Compress the injected diesel and it self-combust and the engine starts running.

Precisely. I said so many times. LTA going to do another "CNG" on diesel special taxes. Buy a diesel car at your own peril. This more or less confirms that diesel pte cars are going to get screwed first.

What makes you think only diese Pte cars are going to get screwed first?

The % of private diesel cars is so smalll....do they want to even go there and adjust the taxes for this small group of pple? How much would they get in the end?

And risk another flip flop later on and be accused of double standards?

It will impact all my fren! The moment they raise across the board, you chicken rice at the Neighbourhood center will probably be raise by a few cents....your fish that you buy from the wet market will increase coz most of the transport are by lorries that run on diesel...

So go figure....do you really think it will impact Pte cars?

And if they do increase the price of diesel, then what? Is still cheaper to run right! 60 liters of diesel gives 900km...unless you are saying the Gov going to increase the price per litre to $5-6 bucks.....

My take is in the end, consumers like you and me gonna be screwed....

Also, do you think taxi companies gonna sit down quietly and absorbed all the extra cost?

Think about it bro....it will have far reaching impact....

They already did it for CNG. The % of CNG cars was also very small. Whatever method they choose in the end, they will hit one specific group which is private diesel cars. Taxis/commercial vans business as usual.

OT abit, does diesel turbos suffer from turbo lag like their petrol turbo counterparts? Tks!

The lag is more related to when it kicks in. I drove a QQ tdi and the slow cvt was more troublesome.

Ok thks! My layman thinking diesel turbo with their instant torque will eliminate the inherent turbo lag which petrol turbos suffer. Thought diesel turbos typically kicks in at 1750rpm thereabouts whilst petrol turbos kick in abit higher?
