I think the judge is asking for more time to keng for a heavier sentence.

Run the sentences consecutively for the multiple offences lah . . . [whip]

Actually the penalty not that serious. Same as driving without license.

How can?? [furious]

He killed 4 people.. made a deep impact on 2 families.. if the couple were to settle down, that's 3 families in total.

I really hope he gets what he deserves. And in my opinion, that is the full unreserved brunt of the law.

SINGAPORE: The motorist who killed a Singaporean and three South Koreans in an accident along the Central Expressway on National Day two years ago received the maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment for the charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

Toh Cheng Yang, 35, was also sentenced to three months' jail for driving under the influence of drugs. The sentences will run concurrently, the judge said on Friday (Jun 19).

Toh was also disqualified from driving all classes of vehicles for 20 years from the date of his release from jail.

District Judge Low Wee Ping said that Toh had committed "one of the most reprehensible offences" in driving under the influence of drugs. "You have committed the ultimate traffic offence," said Low.

In the early hours on Aug 9, 2013, Toh, who had overdosed on a tranquilising and sedative drug, was seen driving above the speed limit along the CTE "in an erratic manner". His car swayed between the second and centre lanes of the five-lane expressway, and nearly collided into a black van after Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

At about 3.54am, Toh, who was heading towards the Yio Chu Kang exit, crashed into the four victims who were standing behind a car that had stopped on the chevron marking before the exit to Yio Chu Kang Road.

South Korean Ms Song Jisoo, 24, and her parents, Ms Kim Mee-Kyung, 53, and Mr Song Jungwoo, 55, were killed instantly, while Ms Song's boyfriend, Singaporean trainee pilot Amron Ayoub, 23, died in the hospital shortly after.

Further investigations by the Health Sciences Authority found that Toh had consumed between five to 15 times the therapeutic level of nitrazepam - a prescription drug used to treat insomnia and convulsions - without a prescription. This was more than twice the amount of nitrazepam which ordinarily gives rise to toxic effects, the court heard.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Winston Man had sought a five-year jail term - the maximum penalty for the dangerous driving charge - adding that Toh had put himself in a position "where (an) accident was almost inevitable". Toh's unauthorised and overconsumption of nitrazepam had rendered him unfit to function at all, let alone drive, charged DPP Man.

"The court has never dealt with such a horrific accident involving four deaths by a traffic offender," said District Judge Low Wee Ping in May, when Toh pleaded guilty.

The max penalty is only 5 years. Nothing much the judge can do. Should be ban driving for life although 20 years is a lot.

3months jail for driving under the influence of drugs. This is really a light sentence. Possession and taking drugs got no charge?

Shangri-La shooting: Man gets 8 years' jail, 3 strokes
One of the two passengers in a car that was shot at after it crashed through security barriers near Shangri-La Hotel last month was sentenced to eight years' jail and three strokes of the cane for drug offences yesterday.
Mohamed Ismail, 31, was convicted of having 0.27g of heroin and 1.41g of methamphetamine, or Ice, along Orange Grove Road at about 4.50am on May 31, and taking drugs on May 30.
The other passenger, Muhammad Syahid Mohamed Yasin, 26, was also arrested for drug offences. The driver of the red Subaru Impreza, Mohamad Taufik Zahar, 34, died on the spot.
The car, with a single bullet hole in the front windscreen, came to a stop on a grass patch barely 250m from the hotel entrance.
The area around the hotel had been placed under a tight security net as it was hosting the Shangri- La Dialogue, a major security summit attended by defence ministers and security chiefs.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Yang Ziliang said Mohamed had abused ubat, a street name for heroin, at his home in Marsiling Crescent on May 30.
He was liable for enhanced punishment for drug consumption, as he was previously convicted of a similar offence in 2003.
Mohamed also spent time in jail for having a controlled drug in 2012.
He admitted in his statement that the heroin and Ice were for his own consumption. He had bought three packets of heroin and Ice from a man in Lorong 15, Geylang for $480 on May 29.
Seven other charges, mostly drug-related offences, were taken into consideration during his sentencing.
Mohamed could have been jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined up to $20,000 for each enhanced drug possession charge.
For enhanced drug consumption, the minimum is five years' jail and three strokes, up to seven years and six strokes of the cane.
Meanwhile, the case against Syahid will be mentioned tomorrow afternoon. He intends to get a lawyer to mitigate.

Unfortunately that would likely not be the case, coz if he's the kind of person who is decent and responsible enough to adhere to a driving ban, he wouldn't be DUI in the first place.

When a person has such complete disregards for the safety and well being of others and himself, we can only assume there's nothing he cannot or will not do as long as it serves his own purpose or pleasure.

Perhaps he should be the one to "go", and not those who "went" due to his stupidity.

Please forgive my harsh words, I simply have zero sympathy or empathy to spare for this guy.

Same length of jail time should be given to those who drive recklessly and causing injuries or death. Not just driving under influence.

Perhaps a few cane marks on the butt should be added too.
