i looking for a used van. e.g. combo, caddy, doblo etc.

basically, i just need the cheapest cost.

low depreciation and high fuel economy and low maintenance costs. assume around 25,000 km mileage per year. can ignore insurance and road tax.

thanks.

Haha... Wait long long.

No such things as cheap for the vans you mentioned.

The main issue with such vans is the high pressure fuel pump that maintain the high pressure inside the common rail & the fuel injectors. Once the seals starts to disintegrate the pump will loose pressure. Pedal to the metal you will feel the van like no power to accelerate. Many wont bother to rectify the problem. The pump usually require a clean up & seal kit change or some dealers will bluff you & tell you the pump up lorry & require replacement. That will set you back 1k+ .

Their parts are not cheap in a sense that one small part fails but the replacement part comes in a set with other parts, making it expensive. Commercial vehicles usually are high mileage. If showing low mileage it's most likely BS. Insurance is higher coz usually it covers anyone that drives it. It does not look at yr clean driving record. Even though road tax is cheap every year got inspection & emission load test costs.

Want cheap. Get used Toyota van. Used conti van may be cheap to buy but repair cost will be high. Used Japanese van may be costly to buy but cheap to run and maintain. Your choice. Would you like your van to spent more time on the road or in the workshop?

heard goo reviews about the reliability of the doblo.

my uncle had a kangoo which had a broken timing belt at 3 years old, he switched to an extol and never looked back.

can't say much about the caddy, i suppose the newer one is fine?

no lowest cost....big jap van are cheap on maintenance but drink diesel...while contis are cheap on diesel but high on maintenance...so comes back to the same thing

but for me..given a choice..i'll buy another kangoo..

part replacements always happen at same intervals..and im getting a constant 20km/l with aircon off...even with aircon on...i'll get 18km/l...

and do get the previous gen ones..the new gen..parts will cost more...but it has a nicer interior

anyone got review about the Citroen Berlingo or Peugeot Partner?

like is the pick up good?

fuel consumption?

In my experience driving Berlingo, pick up is good. Even when loaded, it can easily keep pace with traffic and overtake with ease. Fuel economy was ridiculously good too - can't remember the exact km/l I calculated but it was easily the most economical vehicle I have driven to date.

As for reliability, I hear lots of people saying parts might not last in the long run, and availability of spare parts might be a problem. I'm not qualified to comment on that as I haven't owned or driven it in the long run. Maybe others who have owned these vans can comment.

Been driving a Caddy TDI DSG for 6 years, mileage 86000KM. This year road tax.....$300.

If you want a economical van, probably is those Suzuki Every.

actually, i also know that euro van repair costs are high, i have a combo 1.3 auto and now the clutch/flywheel is rattling and stalling so often, repair is quoted $1.1k. i plan to let it drive till break then repair.

but when you all say jap van e.g. liteace is cheap on maintenance, just how cheap compared to euro?

my first choice has always been the caddy 1.9l tdi dsg but i have waited for 1 year no one selling on market.

so now second priority is either combo 1.7 or liteace. my only gripe with the combo is that it has a VERY high raised floorboard such that my rear passengers find it difficult to board and view outside.

someone mention the kangoo can hit 18km/l, that is really enticing, but i heard too many horror stories on the maintenance of kangoos.

Extol? You want it to spoil, it also won't. Can be quite frustrating (for employees wanting to change new vans). [laugh]

Turbocharged

Daihatsu Extol offers most bang for buck in terms of sufficient power and reliability. Lots of spare parts easily available. It uses the Daihatsu YRV engine.

Toyota Liteace is just as good but the depreciation is much higher.
