KUALA LUMPUR - Police have opened an investigation paper against controversial artiste Namewee (pic) over his recent Chinese New Year-themed video clip "Like A Dog".

"The investigation paper has been opened and we are working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)," said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun after launching a motorcycle convoy to bring awareness to the Tabung Amanah Warisan Polis, in conjunction with the 211th Police Day, Sunday (Feb 18).

The IGP added that the singer was known to not be in the country currently.

"The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code (for uttering words with intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, for improper use of network facilities," he said.

In the video, the singer and dancers are seen wearing dog masks and dancing suggestively in the vicinity of the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.

The dog theme in the video was in conjunction with the Chinese Year of the Dog.

MDA should entice talents like him to take up PR in SG and possibly citizenship through sponsorship and more supportive licensing regimes for his movies. But given his anti-establishment credentials, this is unlikely to materialize.

Maybe we can sweeten the deal.

Take him and we give Boleh land

Steven Lim and if they bargain some more

give them xia xue as well.

Hard bargainer those Msians.  [thumbsup]

Malaysian Government mocked for using barking rooster to celebrate Year of the Dog

The Malaysian Government has faced ridicule after using a barking rooster in a full-page advertisement to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

The Year of the Rooster — based on the Chinese zodiac — has just ended, giving way to the Year of the Dog.

The BBC reported the trade ministry's advert wished people a prosperous Year of the Dog — but showed a rooster emitting a dog's bark in Chinese.

The ministry apologised for the "technical error".

The issue is complicated by a view held by some Malaysian Muslims that dogs are unclean animals.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Malaysian businesses were ignoring or playing down canine symbols — to avoid offending the Muslim majority. Ethnic Chinese make up about a quarter of the country's population.

That led many to think the advert printed in Chinese language newspapers was a misguided attempt to avoid a picture of a dog — whether it made sense or not.

One Facebook user said the advert was "mere stupidity", while another called it a "national embarrassment".

Not his first time in clash with his government over public policies... Been to jail for a short stint before also because of his mocking government songs and raps.

BTW, he is hainanese also... But can't speak the dialect.

he has just made another video in malay language to explain himself.

Actually I think there is a misunderstanding of what he is trying to do and what the media perceive he is trying to do.

Granted, his videos can be quite mischievous although his goal is to make it entertaining. The mischievous part is is to add in some humour to the overall entertainment value of his video.

I feel that perhaps he would be better to just make it entertaining without the mischievous part.  No point trying to stretch the boundaries of the media and the authorities.
