He's known as one of the harshest critics on television, but will he be a strict dad?

 

Simon Cowell is about to become a father for the first time, and is expecting a baby with New York socialite Lauren Silverman - the wife of one of his close friends.

 

Lauren, 36, is the wife of New York real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, but plans to leave her estranged husband.

 

"Lauren and Andrew have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, and their divorce has been in the works for a while," a source told magazine Us Weekly. "As their marriage deteriorated, she and Simon became close."

 

The baby is about 10 weeks along, the source added.

 

The 53-year-old Cowell's stance on fatherhood appears to have softened since 2009, when he famously said that he wasn't cut out for parenthood.

 

"God, no. I couldn't have children. If I had them here drawing on the walls I'd go nuts," he said then. "With kids, you've got a routine you can't escape from. You've got to be up at a certain time. Got to listen. When all you want to do is sit in a corner thinking."

 

However, the X Factor judge later on said in a 2012 interview that he'd changed his mind about having kids, but thought that "at 52, [he'd] probably missed the opportunity."

This doesn't surprise me. Cowell has been telling so many people on Idol, X Factor etc. that they're not doing it right. It was just a matter of time before he extended his criticism to sex too. Fortunately, he was there to provide the object lesson.

 

Cowell is arrogant, but he does strike me as quite the man. He did very well on Top Gear's Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment too. Excellent lap time for an amateur.

 

Think he drives (or drove) a Veyron too.
