Xlentlow Clutched September 2, 2013 Share September 2, 2013 I had similar incident before. was sending sister in law home using Mandai road. didn't have the habit of looking at temperature gauge. suddenly check engine light was blinking then engine lost power. immediately I stopped at side of road. open up bonnet then I realize engine was overheating cuz got smoke. luckily for me I had a 1.5ltr of water on my car. so I opened up the radiator cap and poured all 1.5ltr in. waited for engine to cool. drive down to chongpang and look for taps to get water to fill up the whole radiator with water. I thought it was just me forgetting to top up water. so I drove on without thinking. few days later, I went to workshop for checking of undercarriage knocking sound. my radiator lower hose burst suddenly. then I know it was leaking all along!! luckily for me, mechanic says it didn't so damage to engine.. no overhaul.. or else its $3k at least.. so I just spent $45 replacing the hose.. and everything is fine.. from that day onwards. I look at the temp gauge every 5min. ↡ Advertisement
ProStreetDriver Clutched September 4, 2013 Share September 4, 2013 Common problems what can be causing this: -plugged rad -faulty water pump -thermostat stuck closed -leaking head gasket -if the coolant isn't mixed correctly, so too much water content it won't dissipate the heat properly -aux fan not working

For our climate...1-2 bottle of coolant (500ml) and top up with water is good enough. I tried once top up the entire radiator with premix coolant...end up car overheat cos the waterpump not powerful enuff to pump the coolant around the engine jacket. ↡ Advertisement
