In other countries, people like garbage men, construction workers, bus drivers etc are all highly respected, and more importantly, well-paid (at least enough to make a decent living). Over here we've gone too far into the elitist route that I'm not sure there's any road back now, unless there's a massive fundamental change in the education system.

reminds me of the janitor in San Francisco .... $200k per month is it ?? and yet he slept on the job ....

but then again, ppl will argue about the cost of living ... and the circle never ends.

âDriverless taxi, bus still got a long way to go.

âCurrently GPS still quite dumb and will not illigal U-turn, when there is a construction going on recently and there is a slight diversation of route, map still not updated, GPS will missed the exit and reculate and end up go longer route. There is also where in the Tunnel no GPS signal.

âSo all these how to go driverless taxi and bus? Still long way man..

Use technologies that replaces jobs that people are shunning, rather than using them to take away jobs that people want.

Make driverless road sweepers/garbage collectors, human-less toilet washers, cashiers instead.

Would people prefer to wash toilets, sweep the streets, stand for hours, or rather driving? I'll pick the latter.

Technology doesn't work this way leh.

People develop technology based on what will be the most profitable to them.

Would it be profitable if they take jobs away from the people? Who will want to spend in the long run, or rather have the spending power in the first place?

sometime over qualified is also a problem. company worry you will not stay after investing on you. the other thing about job application, writing is not the best method. call or go personally is more effective. nothing beats seeing the real person.

you mentioned you received a retrenchment package, you are already lucky. many were restructured and just given notice.
