Sigh.

Unfortunately I still observe that many educated young people are travelling to Japan.

A lot of educated young people still travel to japan because we know science from fiction and fear mongering.

some doc has been telling their patient...if you plan to get pregnant soon or are pregnant dun go

Stupid docs. A genetic counselor whom I know has stated that there is negligent risk, and she knows more about this than most doctors.

This is what the WHO has stated about the people from Fukushima

" the radiation doses from the damaged nuclear power plant are not expected to cause an increase in the incidence of miscarriages, stillbirths and other physical and mental conditions that can affect babies born after the accident."

Whats interesting is what the UN said about cancer risk in children exposed to high doses of radiation (though they said more research needs to be done). Looks like it's not all bad.

"For effects that are bound to occur after high doses, the Committee concluded that as seen with carcinogenesis, there are some instances in which childhood exposure poses more risk than adult exposure (e.g. for effects in the brain, cataracts, and thyroid nodules). There are other instances where the risk appears to be about the same (e.g. neuroendocrine system and effects in the kidneys) and there are a few instances where children's tissues are more resistant (lung, immune system, marrow and ovaries).

2011-2013 ... in a short span of 2 years ... died of cancer liao

the contamination is far beyond what we were told and expect ...

http://rt.com/news/fukushima-manager-yoshi...ies-cancer-829/

The former Fukushima supervisor of damage control works at the tsunami-devastated nuclear power plant has died of cancer.

Expected in his case and those that stated to combat the fires. They were subject to far far more radiation than safe. Don't know if he managed to get the anti-radiation meds quick and often enough.

This inevitably the radiation cos of proximity

We wun know the full effects until years down road

I tell u Chernobyl is like a chest X-ray cf this

Actually the UN has stated that Chernobyl was worse. They even stated that "The additional exposures received by most Japanese people in the first year and subsequent years due to the radioactive releases from the accident are less than the doses received from natural background radiation"

http://www.unis.unvienna.org/unis/en/press...unisinf475.html

And this is what the WHO has said "“A breakdown of data, based on age, gender and proximity to the nuclear plant, does show a higher cancer risk for those located in the most contaminated parts. Outside these parts - even in locations inside Fukushima Prefecture - no observable increases in cancer incidence are expected"

Here's the main reason to be careful of going to Japan: they're often too proud to readily admit error, and I don't think they've come clean with the full extent of the contamination. As the last news article shows, news continues to "trickle in" when it's already too late to do anything about it.

The Japanese also have very deep flaws in their culture (just like every other culture).

Like whats written on their texbook that Japan did not invade any countries during WWII.

Think they were on a liberation movement......they whole world misunderstood. <_<

Had booked a tour pkg to Hokkaido. Tour starts on 24 Sep 13. 7D. Deposit already paid. Due to news today that major operation at Fukushima will begin soon, OC a bit freaked out.

Thinking of cancelling the booking. Will call ASA tmr. On Booking sheet, alrdy stated - cut $300 per pax if cancel >35 days from dep date; $500 if 16- 34 days from dep date.

How ah? Carry on or cancel? Thanks.

Do you know how far Hokkiado is from Fukushima?

In local terms it is approximately like Singapore to Penang

Enjoy your holiday

No worry, our red passport will protect you de. [:p]

Frankly, nobody knows the after effects only much much later.......

If scared, should not go at all (at least for another 20 years) whether they are doing the major ops now or not since god knows what happened during the Tsunami. A lot of things could have been covered up.
