Actually the person that the police are looking for is likely to be related to the dead:

One body was found in 14J Hillside Drive.

The car that the police are looking for is SGM14J.

I still don't understand how this can happen in broad daylight in a high traffic area, and the driver suspect can just happily go on his way??

Why are police still "appealing for information" when they have the number plate??

I'm sure they know who's the owner, but just cannot locate him. Perhaps trying to reach out people who have seen or spoken to him today

This doesn't sound like something that would happen in Singapore...more likely to take place in Malaysia or Hong Kong.

could be:

robber enters house, killed the older man, tried to get away with the car but the son somehow stuck onto the car.

car plate no and house no exactly the same, most likely belongs to them.

those who have in-car video, and are around that area, time to view your videos!
