According to a report in The New Paper, the incident was reported by an anonymous source who says the incident had occurred at a childcare centre in Tampines in April. The source had been prompted to report the story in light of the recent case of the 3-year-old who was abused at an NTUC childcare centre in Toa Payoh.

 

The principal of the childcare centre initially denied using corporal punishment on children, but her godson had later confirmed the identity of the boy in the picture as the name the source had mentioned.

 

In addition, when asked, five out of seven children, accompanied by their parents or grandparents, said that there had been instances of caning at the childcare centre. Queried about their responses, she admitted that she did 'hit some students, but only on their palms with a ruler'.

 

I think this one is more like the old skool of hard knocks. Caning and stand one corner, painful but no serious internal injuries.

likewise the teacher was been abused by throwing toy at her, sometime it just take one simple KL face to let the teacher snap, not saying what she did was right though, maybe 1 hour would be appropriate.

Yup. The boy was in the wrong. No doubt about that. He should be punished.

 

But for 3 hours with no food/water or toilet breaks?

 

And what does putting the box over the head achieve other than to humuliate the boy? Standing in the corner is sufficient.

anyway, these so call daycare centre is a place for pri school kids to stay after school when they have no one at home (probably from 1pm-6pm hence no food is provided). The centre have 'teacher' to help student on their homework, also for the kids to rest.

 

maybe the boy would do monkey face to the other classmate or disturb the rest of the group. Since this is not the official school, they cannot give him a demerit point or whatever. But i guess they can tell the parents that the student is not welcome without any punishment.

I agree with you. my brother and sis in law are teachers. can therefore empathise with teachers.

 

even as a tutor last time, I also don't like to take students who are not in the mood to study.

If you have no problem with the slapping, why don't you ask your boss to slap you in your face right now?

 

Slap is not to discipline. It is a way to humiliate.

Student care. It's quite sad for those primary school kids to have to go to student care. Because both mum and dad works full-time, so there is no supervision at home. For the younger ones, have to go to student care centre.

 

Some primary schools run their own student care, but only limited to kids from lower-income families.

Punishment must be appropriate to the mischief.

 

To me, making him stand for 15-30 mins is sufficient.

 

Why must slap, shove the boy against the wall and put a box over his head? And make him stand for 3 hours. U try standing 3 hours. See how u can tahan or not.

 

What the principal did is simply reinforcing the idea that using force, humiliation and fear is correct.

Ok leh 3hrs standing no big deal leh i was made to kneel infront of altar table a whole night for mischiefs and I seriously doubt it is 3hrs . Nowadays teachers nt so strict . Slap face I don't agree but some kids deserve them. You should always think why are they are the place when they can be at home ? If the parents or grand parents cannot handle them what make you think they will listen to the teachers ?

 

It only takes on mischievous kid to understand the notion why they are punished. On a personal note , force , fear and humiliation is the best training tool for one to survive in this world. Too many losers nowadays , this cannot that cannot .

 

A side note : please try squatting and wash 6 hrs of dishes and see whether standing for 3 hrs more siong or that?

quite dramatic i would say, my son burn his hand with a hot iron when he was 2, no one in the family scream so loud, not to mentioned he fractured his arm playing monkey bar when his granddad took him to the playground, just say ok lor will go see doctor when i come home.
