Hydrocarbon Turbocharged June 27, 2013 Share June 27, 2013 So thats why when my wife is overseas people don't like to stand too close to me on the mrt. Like that good. Don't like people to keep invade my personal space on the MRT, especially if the train empty, still stand so close. ↡ Advertisement

I think it's the max 2 yr old.

Sgcarsurvey Neutral Newbie June 27, 2013 Share June 27, 2013 3 years old is too young IMHO. Personally, I started lessons when I was 7. Don't need to rush, start by playing in pool first...
Silver_blade Turbocharged June 27, 2013 Share June 27, 2013 My boy started his swim lessons when he was 7 month old. He just turned 4 yo yesterday. Do note that for toddlers, they are still not ready to master swimming strokes. Their core muscles and coordination are not there ye. That explains why most swimming coaches said they are "too young" to get started. When my boy first started, the aim was to instill water confidence ie: to be comfortable with water being poured over his head, to learn how to hold on to the side wall etc. Slowly, he progress to immersing his head underwater, holding his breathe. When he was around 3, he started to learn how to kick and use his arms. But still not ready to master proper strokes. So now is more like dog paddle. But at least, he's not afraid of water and is equally aware of the dangers involved. Agree. It is not about swimming with the correct strokes, but more to instill water confidence, etc.. Animian Clutched June 28, 2013 Share June 28, 2013 (edited) Agree. It is not about swimming with the correct strokes, but more to instill water confidence, etc.. yes it is all about water confidence ... my 2.5yrs chiong when he see swimming pool or when he see water slide ..also chiong up and he dare to jump into the water ... of course we are in the water to catch him .. ... he dare to blow bubbles in the water too ... as for the strokes... guess we can wait til 3-4 years old or when they take or understand instructions Edited June 28, 2013 by Animian
Enye Hypersonic June 28, 2013 Share June 28, 2013 Do note that water confidence is good but water over confidence is not for a child who does not have water survival skills yet
Hosaybo 6th Gear June 28, 2013 Share June 28, 2013 think can start training water confidence at 4. Then at about 5, can start learning to swim. You realise that if they are not afraid of water (head can go in, blow bubbles etc), they can straight away start lesson proper. If not, they will take about 4or more lessons just to be comfortable.
