$1200 to change Cooling Coil & Condenser. It is too ex??

Hi my car air con gas has been leaking and today finally decided to repair it once and for all. I went to a air con work shop at circuit road and was quoted $1200 to replace both the cooling coil and condenser.

 

It is my first time repairing aircon and I was shocked by the price quoted. May I know if this is the industry market place or am I overly paying over the odds?

 

My drive is a Peugeot 308.

I m having a 207 n I replace juz the cooling coil already costs me $700+ last year.

Peugeot parts r expensive, I heard.

If do at AF is much higher that price I had gotten outside.

Guess for 308 is going to b not cheaper much.

Thanks for the reply. Indeed it was really expensive as I read other threads coiling coil cost about $450-$600 only but I had mine done up at $1200 for both cooling coil and condenser.

 

The cooling coil is original but the condenser is OEM. I was thinking whether I got slash by the workshop at circuit road.

 

AF i'm sure is going to cost me a bomb and I don't dare to imagine. Looking at your damage a $700 plus I guess our parts are really expensive.

When AF quoted me 3,xxx.xx change coil my jaw dropped ( my servicing is done at AF cuz I signed servicing package).

I m thinking to service my pug at Thomas n Partners at Autopoint when I use up my last one next mth.

Even got slash also minor wound.

 

Other cars $600 is only cooling coil but you now change 2 items Cooling coil (est $750) and condenser ($450). Not really so expensive right?

Hi bro,

Why not get a second opinion from ATomika or Markcool. This will give you some food for comparison.

BTW, I once changed my coil for about 700 at Tomika. Not advertising for them though.

The expensive element may not be the part alone, some models of cars are just designed in a way that is more labour intensive to access the cooling coil. Certain cars may have to remove their whole dashboard and steering column. Hence labour cost will play a part in the final price.

Thanks for all the replies. I read every single of them and found it extremely helpful. I guess that what I am paying should be thereabouts and a reflection of market price in that case as indeed the cooling coil requires the removal of the entire dashboard in order to access, thus may incur higher labour cost.

 

I was worried that I got slash that's why check with fellow bros here.

I think most cars need to remove the whole dashboard and steering column to change the parts. It is really not a simple job to change the cooling coil. And i think different workshop charge different amount of labour cost.

Does the cooling coil of Conti different from that of a Jap model? Thus, the higher price?

i have been hanging around my mech's plc often and seen various cars changing cooling coils, some just need to remove dashboard to access, some like the colt needs to remove steering column as there is a brace bar that is blocking the access and u can't remove it without taking out the steering column.

Usually when aircon is not cold or gas leak often it should be the cooling coil spoil. Seldom hear the condenser will spoil.

 

I suggest you get some other quotes and 2nd opinion to see if your first quote was correct. Go to a aircon specialist workshop like Markcool to get a 2nd opinion.

 

And not all cars, when replacing the cooling coil, needs to remove its dashboard and steering column. Some need not and can replaced in half a day's time.

Aircon not cold, could range from cheap fix like thermostat relay spoil, to expensive repairs like compressor, coil, or condenser. Note that aircon oil (not gas) is crucial to lifespan of these components too. This is often overlook n owners just wait until component spoil before reacting..

You can try filling up the leak instead of changing the coil. I have a workshop which help me repair by filling up the leak. $380.

you need to find the source of the leak. usu in front of the engine, where the condenser is exposed.

 

as some bro recommended, you can go to markcool in woodlands for an assessment.
