Cross Island Line??

Whether underground or not, if they going to build across the nature reserve, it will still got affected. [rolleyes]

Correct. They have to build air-vents somewhere and also have access to the train lines at certain points along the way. So there may be a stretch of 5km that is underground between stations under the nature reserve, but who knows how many access points above ground would be required for that distance.

That one is PIE extension from Ngee Ann Poly to be widen all the way to Bukit Browm & Thomson Road.... -_-

Go and take a drive on BKE when you're free. I think you haven't been on BKE in years.

Don't make me post screenshot from Google Maps hor! -_-

Maybe the air vents provide better level of co2 for the plants.

And maybe the vibration of the passing trains will be like gentle massage for the animals / insects in the nature reserve too.

They will have 3 lines eventually going to Changi Biz Park, current EW via Expo, new Downtown Line under construction, and proposed Eastern Region Line. Just change lines to one of those if your starting point is on a different line.

Re-visiting this thread.

http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/first-phase-cross-island-line-environmental-impact-assessment-gazetted?page=1

some extract

The boreholes do not mean the Cross Island Line’s alignment has been decided; site investigations are to gain understanding of soil and rock profiles and structural geology, so that risks can be managed for any tunnel construction in future.

The consultancy conducting the EIA, Environmental Resources Management, will also assess the impact of the proposed MRT line cutting through the nature reserve during the construction and operation phase – this will make up the second part of the EIA report and will completed by the end of the year.

The EIA will be one of the factors determining the Cross Island Line’s alignment, said LTA. Other factors include travel times, cost and impact on home and land owners. When the MRT line, scheduled to complete around 2030, was first announced in 2013, nature groups had expressed serious concerns that it would cut directly under primary and regrowth forests that were over a century old, and over the potential impact of surface works.

Their input was incorporated when LTA called the EIA tender, and a report setting out about 400 tree species, 200 bird species, 400 insect species and 150 species of mammals and amphibians has also aided the EIA consultants.

Senior Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo thanked the nature groups for their efforts, and LTA chief executive Chew Men Leong said: “The findings from the engineering feasibility study and the site investigation will provide critical information to help the Government make a considered decision on the CRL alignment that best serves the public interest.”

The EIA (Phase One) report will be available for public viewing, by appointment, for four weeks.

Noticed in the news report, jo Teo did not comment on the issue, only thanked the groups.

If they build CRL that cuts the water catchment area, it is more for 6.9mil. But at what cost for this CRL?

(mmmm, not only monetary, but environmental and biodiversity)

Well, I think we need a cross-island expressway.

Right now, when Mandai Rd is jammed due to that oil spill accident at BKE, there's no other way to cross.

If they really cut across the nature reserve just to build this cross island line, this is not a very piece of good news.

I don't see the need for this line.

unless its for 6.9 or even more ... [crazy]

Confirmed they need this line, cause they can justify the reason to bring in even more people here, like 7 mil or more. And people here would not able to complain anymore.

Yes it blatantly obvious that the line is meant to support a bigger increase in population. Else build the line for ghost to ride ah? Hahah. Our dear govt does not spend money for project which do not bring in extra money unecesaarily. It's all part of the master plan for more than 6.9m like you mentioned!!!

The cross line definitely is not meant to lessen the current crowded situation in public transport, and improve the life of people here.
