Voodooman Supersonic December 30, 2014 Share December 30, 2014 Maybe local employment law should study what the Korean govt is doing. Over there, you can't just retrench as and when you like unless the company is making a loss. It will be too late. Free labour market is essential to the survival of SG but locals cannot be discriminated in their own country. 13 Singaporean's rice bowl smashed their vacancies taken by foreigners company kena banned for 2 years cannot hire foreigner? wow, just wow Interestingly, the 13 Singaporeans lost their rice bowls but the foreigners are allowed to stay on and the restriction does not extend to future renewal of work permits extended. What a joke. ↡ Advertisement

ShellVpower 4th Gear December 30, 2014 Share December 30, 2014 owned by PRC PR? Sacking Singaporeans for foreigners are very common nowadays. We should get used to it. And if we cherish our jobs, we should do our best for the company. So that even when we are unfairly sacked, we have our heads held high, conscience clear when we face their allegations of 'incompetence related termination'. Love not thy job, love thyself. Move on when needed for thy company will not love thee. Many PRCs I know don't mingle with locals. And if you try to mingle with them, it happens so that you are of ethnic chinese race or look like one, you have to be chinese to them which means you swear your allegiance to China even though you are born and raised here, including those who served national service. That's why I gave up trying to welcome them after a while. They wanted me to swear allegiance to China even when I told them I am malay, japanese and english mixed. I am competent with chinese only thanks to my diligence in school. I learnt chinese because I need a 2nd language to promote to the next level, nothing to do with whatever race or ancestry. Those who are keen to join our singaporean groups will do so at their own accord. So the PAP campaign of 'integration' won't work. Demanding us to embrace the foreigners as our own people will not work unless they are willing to join us in the first place. And if they do, the integration program is redundant. Nothing to do with their program, it's a fundamental human problem. Do not be surprised that there are also PRCs who even questioned our right to demand that they serve NS. They will tell you that they don't even love Singapore, no attachments to this place and so they are not obligated to serve NS, after reaping the benefits of a PR at our expense. But be fair to those who actually want to serve and join us regardless where they come from.

ShellVpower 4th Gear December 30, 2014 Share December 30, 2014 Yes, there will be some who genuinely like the way of living here, settle down here and take up citizenship. Depending on your qualifications and skill set .. it is an employee market in the global talent market. Nothing to do with nationality or race or religion, if you are given an option to hop to a different country for a better paying job, better standard of living, people will take it up. There are many Singaporeans who will take such offers too - many will not stay in a foreign country for good. The talk of loyalty is BS for this kind of talent market, and we should not be naive in thinking so. Why incompetent foreign employees are issued employment permit without proper screening, got to ask the employers, ICA, and MOM. Yes very true. I recall hearing one Indian national telling a Singaporean that he should help him because he is also an Indian. The Singaporean was incensed by that remark and asserted his disconnection with India by refuting him with "I am not Indian, I am singaporean." Some PRCs also accused me of being a slut to westernization and that I have forgotten my ancestors from China by calling myself a Singaporean. Some of them even go to the extend of calling singapore a chinese colony, part of china, 'Po'-county and that all malays and indians must leave Singapore. One also accused me of being a worshipper of Western culture when I celebrated Good friday. So I told him I celebrate Hari Raya and Deepavali by not going to work as well. I These crank-case are not alone and I think these people either need a shrink or a good bludgeon. That is why a friend of mine insisted that he be identified by nationality only, leaving his race away. Otherwise according to him, it will create confusion of divided loyalty. We are Singaporeans so we have only 1 passport, 1 loyalty. Chinese singaporeans, Singaporean Chinese or Indian Singaporean etc have dual citizenships and divided loyalty.
