This one is manager no balls to manage their subordinates.

Most managers here no balls and no skills to manage down, but super skilful to suck up to top management and ang moh.

I disagree. We are not talking about bangalahs and their foreman or supervisor. A manager has his own work to take care of & his role is not to babysit his subordinates. If ppl wants to be treated like a child, they will be treated like one.

That's a very middle management mentality. Management should be concerned only about deliverables. I don't give a s h i t if my subordinate sleeps at home as long as his work gets done and objectives are met.

That depends. If his is a 5 day work week he's doing beyond which is good. If 6 days work week dan it's not very pro.

That's beside the point. Being professional is for yoir own good, not just for the company...

Get use to it, that is pretty much the norm now with youngsters for sat and if they are doing an errand on their off-day. Also a chance to show off their body-arts.

it is the contract that hold back both, one cannot fire the strawberry without paying her 3 months, one cannot resign without paying company 3 months.... so both try to keng to their benefits.

she has been given 30min leeway, company impose $1/min seem fair, if she doesn't like the term, she can resign... them she lose :D

it's always so easy to blame it on the "strawberry" generation and blaming them for weak...this is the case of exploitation. 3 months notice period is just simply ridiculous... I only heard of senior management staff having to serve 3 months period....typically for entry level 1 month is the norm....in fact in the us, u can just tender on the spot and not come to work any more.

again, moral of the story never join a SME IT firm...

While I agree with you that 3 months for a junior position is ridiculous, I don't think it's right to paint all the SME IT firms in the same stroke. From the article itself, it seems like "Amanda" doesn't seem to take her job seriously. If she's always late, and her boss even pushes her starting time back by half an hour, why can't she be on time afterwards?

It doesn't matter if she tries to take a shorter lunch hour or goes home slightly later, she's already in the wrong in the first place. If she was late for a meeting, she would have wasted everyone's time, not just her own. She even knows by how many minutes she was late per month, yet she does nothing about it.

So, the moral of the story shouldn't be "never join a SME IT firm", but be responsible for your own actions.

sarpork! this is what i practice as well, dun tell me how many hours u work... want time u report to work and what time u knock off... so long you can deliver the work within the time frame, thats good enough.

I used to have a strawberry gen staff who is perpetual late comers.. around 915-1030am come in when official time is 830am. Super lame.. I served multiple notice and warning to the staff with feedback to HR. Wanna fire the staff but HR very softheart. Finally the staff resigns as know no chance of promotion or whatever bec of feedbacks that I lodged.. all people in office very happy and relieve.

Anywhere for the report above.. its the typical one sided story.. just that company is soft and stupid. Soft for not terminating the staff early. Stupid for implementing fines that's not legal.

It's not a trend. If you fire ppl you have to give severance package. If employees leave on their own or asked to, employers dun have to give extra cent. Why must the boss give extra to bad workers?

Ppl coming in late is a bad habit. If there's isn't some basic rules & penalties in place ppl will take it for granted. Whoa lau, my colleague comes in at 10am boss never say anything, I also follow. Ppl should be ashamed of themselves for having such bad work attitude and not blame the company for penalizing them. If they are good in the first place, you won't see this kinda thing. Many times ppl spoil their own market.

What do you mean you also follow?

You mean you also come in at 10am

or you follow your company rules and

come on time?

:D
