The overheating red light pops up due to the coolant tank sensor malfunction, cannot just change the sensor alone as it comes complete with the tank. As long you replace with the improved part, not the old one.. It should not happen again.

The steering rack has a lot of sound, it cannot be fixed.. a common issue. So got kok kok noise on uneven road.

Don't get AT, get MT for gearbox reliability.

Topping up engine oil is pretty a norm for continental cars.. so not really an issue for Rotary powered car.. Just a little bit more frequent nia..

If really interested, please get an experience mech to check before buying.. Else you will pay lots of hidden repair jobs.

Rx8 is good looking car, have been considerating for past 3 years. Eventually changed car 2 times but non of them chooses rx8. I'm afraid about the engine problem, heating issue... But nevertheless it's still one of the best looking car around...

Like mentioned before, so long one understands the nature and working of the rotary engine, then owning and maintaining an RX8 shouldn't be a big problem. And the later batches of the Pre-FL models are certainly good enough and FL ones are considered to be even more reliable.

Still, I have to admit that rotary engine isn't everyone's cup of tea and there will always be supporters, doubters and haters for each car model. End of the day, if you can live with it and like it, then nothing else matters. [cool]

There are some who feel that RX8 is not fast on straights. Well, when Mazda designed the RX8, they placed handling and fun-to-drive factor over acceleration/top speed. And having a NA rotary engine, RX8 certainly suffers from lack of torque at low ends. Thus, its acceleration is a tad weak for a sports car but you can't really considered it to be slow, it's just not WRX/Evo fast.

Allow me to share something which I read before, on the definitions of speed and fast:

Speed is relative. Mathematical speed, distance over time, isn't the same as going fast. Bloody-Hell-that-felt-quick can't be measured in km/h. High performance cars and supercars are too fast, too capable for real roads. Dragging a car of modest horsepower to its very limits, carrying speed through corners, that is fast. Fastness is eking out every last horsepower from a car, from nailing each gearshift to the millisecond to maintain every valuable yard of pace. True fastness doesn't come from dozens of cylinders and hundreds of horsepowers. Speed isn't a number, it's a state of mind.

On this point, RX8 can be considered to be fast and fun. Other examples are the new 86, BRZ , Elise, etc. It's more of the smiles per miles, rather than how fast it takes to reach the quarter mile. Cars that are fun to drive will smear a smile across your face. It's the very essence of driving. Unless your main priority is to be a traffic light hero, then that's a different story. But seriously, how fast can you go on public roads in Singapore? [cool]

Just my 0.01 cent worth. [;)]

if you get RX8 you really need to know the car inside out to enjoy it fully. It is a car with lots of feedback. When something goes wrong, as a driver you can feel the difference. Do what is normal to this car, such as top up engine oil, check your coolant levels often change transmission oil and engine oil as stated in the manual and it gives reward with high power high rev driving experience. No car will come close to this experience for its price. You can rev the car at 4-6k rpm and it will thank you for it. Just have to bear with the high petrol costs. Don't look at it like a 1.3l engine. Treat it like a 2.6l engine and you will realize high petrol consumption is normal.
