Used to owned a 6mt until scrap... Overall, nice looking car with bodykit & upgraded rims can attract quite a number of chicks.

Maintenance wise, use mineral oil and need to always top up engine oil. Common in RX8.

Normal servicing at workshop. Dun bother going to those self claim rotary specialist/experts unless u dun mind get rip off by them.

Power wise is decent as compare to a normal saloon car. Slight more power I would say. But cannot label it as performance car. As modding this car is as good as throwing $ into the sea.

Handling is good.

Wat i miss about this car is the engine sound. Really unique...

Always rem to call fong tat for ur parts. It can really save u a lot. [:)]

Thanks all bros for the inputs. Appreciate them, really.

Just joined the mazda forum and honestly, I'm now quite scared to go in and buy the rx-8 after all the comments I am seeing.

Slightly high insurance(acceptable)

High fuel consumption(mentally prepared)

Leg room hotter after long period of driving(acceptable)

Fact that ex-owner has changed entire gearbox before(Scary not sure why), of course can look at other 2nd hand ones

Potentially Rotary engine giving problems or even total loss(deal breaker), cant swallow this

Oil check every 5 gas fill ups and very frequent oil change(deal breaker), cant swallow this

Am actually looking at rx-8(used), 2014 mazda 6(new), Peugeot RCZ(new), alfa159(used), 3-series 316(new) or C-class(new)

I know all are entirely different types of cars totally but I'm still single(getting married next year), have no problems with either coupe or sedan.

Basically only looking for a car that looks aesthetically pleasing to me and won't give me maintenance issues can already (Travel a lot daily)

Unfortunately for me, all the 6 cars I am looking at, the rx-8, RCZ and 159 are all cars with potential problems.

Only car left with lesser inherent problems that makes me go ( [bounce2] [bounce2] when I see on the road is the Mazda6.

I have C-class and 3-series in my list because my kakis tell me since I going to spend this much on a car might as well buy a C-class cause more presence than Mazda6 (I disagree though) but cannot deny the fact that many people think this way (not that I care). C-Class and 3-series actually can mod till quite nice in my hands [laugh]

I am still going down to the dealer's tomorrow to view the car though. Maybe after seeing the rx-8 will make me buy it on impulse haha.

bro, you have same taste as I do... well, mazda 6 is actually a good car to consider, it's bigger than C class and 3 series. To your kakis, the Merc brand cause the C class to have more presence... can't blame, we are generally brand conscious....e

for RX-8, I ever had an urge to buy but after thinking abt the insurance and FC, got to give up the idea.

maybe wait for the new RX to be released. heard it has better fuel consumption...

Also remember to do compression test before buying..

You dont want to be in a position to spend 4-5k to overhaul the engine after buying..

I know someone who was deciding between a used Golf GTI & a MX-5 a few years back... In his heart, he wanted the Mazda, but most of his peers told him that VW is a better brand and a GTI is a better car than MX-5..... Still, he was confused. I encouraged him to go with his heart....

Till today, he is still driving his Mx-5 (coming to 3 years I think).... spent a alot of $$$ and love on it... Imagine if he had gone for the GTI to conform to peer pressure...

Just my 1.99 cents worth

Ya wonder by the time the new RX launches how long later liao...

My friend driving the 159 totally advice me against buying it cause he is literally at the workshop once in every 2-3mths.

Mazda 6 is indeed $40k cheaper than C-class and 3series though...

Brother, GT86 is the car for you.

I somehow love the back of the GT-86 but don't really like the front look.

I have a friend driving a white GT-86. Drove it before and really not bad. My friend bought the car for only 3rd month and one of the dials came off when he tried to flip it too hard [crazy]

Reason why its not on my list is because it's quite ex for a non performance coupe and not many features.

I know many will argue that in terms of depreciation is the same with many etc but...

Not falling in love with the look too but that's just personal opinion sorry [sweatdrop]

I support all bros who want to get the RX8.

I was looking at one myself and I can understand

falling in love with car.

:D

This car is automotive history with the Rotery

engine and Mazda engineers are the most advance

in the world. They seem to want to design their dream

car instead of cars that make profit. They are looking at

replacing spark plugs with lasers! How cool is that?

aye, I think if you consider the 86 a non-performance coupe, then the RX-8 is just about there as well...

What I do agree is that the RX-8 is a good looker. But I think the engine is more important. The RX-7 is a great performance car, that's why Mazda is thinking of bringing it back. I think the termination of the RX-8 says it all.

The RX8's engine isn't that bad. It is actually quite powerful considering it to be 1.3 NA. Performance wise, RX7 was certainly better due to being TC but that also lead to a few over-heating issues and reliability matters. Hence, Mazda's primary intention of coming out with the RX8 is to make it more reliable and appeal to more people. It is like a less hardcore version, much like the 86/BRZ.

The termination of the RX8 doesn't mean that its engine is poor but it is more due to the stricter emission control in Europe. CTR (UK or JDM) had also stopped production and so did Evo X...due to the same reason.

Just to note, the automotive world (eg Top Gear) seem to like and enjoy the drive of the new 86/BRZ.. the classic RWD sports car experience. To each his own. I feel real rotary supporters will appreciate RX7 as the hardcore sports car while RX8 is more of the family sports car... and the new RX9, if it does come out, will be taking on the hardcore sports car path again..

I didn't know that.

While most engineers were happily playing with their pistons and boxers

only Mazda engineers were playing with their wankel.

Now most engineers are happy with their spark plugs

Mazda engineers are looking at laser engines.

1st Gear

Dear bros, sorry I did not dig up the old Mazda RX-8 thread cause the topics all did not seem very relevant.

Am looking at a pre-owned, pre FL RX-8. In particular it's this one:

http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...582&DL=2151

Any bros here with advice on what to look out for?

I'm mentally prepared for the higher fuel consumption, slightly higher insurance and more frequent mineral oil change.

Are there any obvious faults with this car after 5yrs etc?

If any of the bros here happen to know the history of this car would be even better!

Thank you much much [grouphug]

got consider sti evo as well? out of 3 i did consider rx-8..in fact i was condering for almost 2 weeks before i go with my choice of car.

rx-7 makes me droll as much too
