Ford escape 2013

I had fond memories of my old Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute 2.3L. 5 years of trouble-free driving and tough as nail. Built like a tank. I rear-ended a Toyota which had faulty rear brake lights when the driver had to do an emergency stop due to errant cyclist. The Toyota rear needed a complete replacement but my Escape had a little dent on the bumper and a broken license plate. That was it!

Everyone tells me to avoid Ford, but I gave it a try anyway. Turns out to be one of the most reliable car I owned. Five years driving, only problem I had was a flat battery after 2 years. Fuel consumption was very good for a 2.3 liter engine.

Design looks dorky but it's adorably ugly. It handles really well compared to my first gen Honda CR-V (which is also a great SUV but rolls quite a bit). You can get it to drift and easily catch the tail if it steps out too much, even though it's a AWD. Very predictable handling.

If the new Escape inherits the DNA of the old, it'll be a great SUV.

Now all Fords look the same both inside and out. So freaking boring.

But the EcoBoost engines are good. Forget about buying the car with NA engines like the Ford Focus.

Previously Ford and Mazda shared the same platform and technology. Hence it is reliable.

But now Ford is on its own, so does have have the same reliability as before?

I heard that there are some issues with the 6DSG gearbox from Volvo and Ford. But the dealers are able to rectify them appropriately, so not much issues on that.

The new upcoming Ford Mondeo (or Ford Fusion in USA, which has been on the road there for a few months already) which looks like the Aston Martin from the front, I hope it sells well here.

Got 1.0EcoBoost (100-125bhp), 1.5EcoBoost (Could be China market only, to replace the 1.6EcoBoost engines, up to 170bhp), 1.6EcoBoost (150 / 180bhp), 2.0EcoBoost (240bhp), 2.0Hybrid and 2.0Plug-In hybrid, and of course the slew of Diesel engine options as well. I hope Regent Motors start to bring in the Duratorq diesel engines!!!

You again. Stop giving misleading information ... do tell me where you get your "info" that the 6 speed dual clutch gearbox of the volvo and ford giving problems? Your friend's dog cat hamster told you so?

Please refrain from giving "advices" or "infos" to others if you don't have first hand experience with the car or you hear it from hearsay.

And in case you are doubting me, I do have a first hand experience with a Volvo with 6 speed dual clutch gear box (Ford shares the same parts), and did not encounter any gearbox problem with the 2+ year car. Brought it up to genting /KL for a few times when the car was new till now and the gearbox is still holding strong.

Really! that's news to me that Mazda contributes to making Ford cars more reliable [laugh]

Having access to technologies from ownerships of Aston Martin, Volvo, and Jaguar, I'm sure Ford can maintain reliability on "its own", unless there decides to go into production of rotary-engine cars.
