DivX files

Just installed a Pioneer AVH-X5500BT on my ride.

It supposed to be able to play DivX movies from a USB drive.

I tried to use a AVI to DivX converter to convert my movies, but when I play it on the HU, it says resolution not supported.

Anyone can advise which converter software should I use instead?

You need to check what is the existing format of your files in your thumb drive.

DivX supports the MPEG 4 codec. So if you download movies via torrent, you gonna get your movies in mkv files, which you may need to split them to the appropriate format.

Also I notice that if you try to play higher res movies , 720 or 1080 in bigger file sizes like > 4GB, on your thumbdrive ( NTFS or EX-FAT format ), some players like TVs will be unable to read them even if its a compatiable and playable format

It doesn't actually make sense to talk about "AVI to DivX conversion" because DivX is a video codec, whereas AVI is a video container. If you don't know what that means, never mind, it's technical, but basically video files that end in .avi (AVI files) can be DivX or something else (like Xvid or many other codecs). So AVI can be DivX, but not necessarily so.

What you need to find out is what exact codec your files have been compressed with. The extension should tell you. A lot of downloaded high def content has been compressed with the H.264 codec and placed in a mkv (Matrovska Video) container. These files have the .mkv extension. If this is what your files have, you can try converting to an AVI container with a codec compatible with your player (you can use DivX, but Xvid usually works fine for DivX compatible players). A good free converter is Pazera Mkv to AVI converter: http://download.cnet.com/Pazera-Free-MKV-t...4-75450258.html

But you should verify your codec/container first. Pazera has numerous other converters (mp4 to avi, flv to avi) that are applicable if your files are contained in something other than Matrovska.
