There were some interesting theories put forth that aliens combined their DNA with apes to produce us - Homo sapiens so that we are intelligent like them but yet more suitable for this planet.

Something like their home planet cmi liao and they want to make sure their DNA lives on through us.

Hence the popular conspiracies about alien abductions where they came to bring some samples (of us) home to use us as hosts to continue their race and so forth.
