77-year-old man arrested for case of snatch theft

Police arrested a 77-year-old man on Sunday afternoon for snatching a gold chain off a female victim at the void deck of a flat along Gangsa Road.

 

The suspect pounced on his victim from behind at about 8.35am on Sunday morning, and shouts from her caught the attention of two individuals nearby, who managed to note his appearance and the direction he ran off to.

 

Police arrested him in the same vicinity less than five hours later. He will be charged in court on Tuesday.

 

If convicted for snatch theft, the man faces a maximum jail term of seven years and may also be caned.

It says "...may also be caned" not "...will be caned". They are just citing the provisions of the law that allows for caning. But very unlikely will cane due to age. Also unlikely to serve long jail sentence if any, also due to age.

If he still kena the max 7 years , will he still be able to come out alive? or will start running again.

At 77 still wanna cane him might as well give him the death sentence ? as you get older your wounds get harder to heal.

There are some old people (in Japan and believe there are cases everywhere also) who purposely commit minor crimes in order to go jail 'cos either too lonely or no $$$.

i believe this is the case for all develope country. the transistion from 100 years ago to now is a lot that its no longer viable to go without a job for too long liao. cause everything need money. unlike last time, just need to have own field can liao.
