Steam iron.. the type which doesn't need ironing board

Anyone here uses steam iron, the type which doesn't need ironing board? How effective is it? Can it replace those type which needs ironing board? I don't need straight iron lines on my clothes, just need to remove wrinkles.

Actually why many ppl dunno how to use an iron? I iron my own shirts. Have been doing it for many years. Not really difficult, just have to get the hang of it.

Have a Novita unit. Cant really get it straight for 100% cotton shirts. But for polyester shirts like the ones from G2000, can get it straight. Must pull the shirt and then use the steamer to go over it. Dont put the steamer too long on the shirt, will make it wet due to condensation.

 

But after a while, me back to normal iron. Cos I can iron my shirt faster than using the steam iron.

 

My Novita is a white elephant since then. Now no longer working but still there.

I think you are referring to garment steamers.

 

 

Save your money and time by using a conventional iron.

 

You might wonder why it doesn't work as well at home as compared to those sales girls using it in boutiques. That's becos their clothes are already pre-ironed in the factory. It takes quite a bit of effort to achieve the same for clothes which are freshly laundered.

men's clothings usually need 'iron lines' to be hard ironed in... these steamers wont be able to achieve that.

 

but if you are concerned with having 'shiny' marks due to high temperature and pressure when the fabrics overlaps on some fabrics, this will prevent it...

 

Another thing is, it takes darn long to iron one piece of clothing... normal iron still the best.

I think what you need is a steam iron that has the vertical steam feature,which can make the functions without the ironing board.And you can also choose the steamer garment to finish the task,But it is common more expensive than the steam iton.In a word,I recommand that you purchase the convenient steam iron has the vertical steam feature.

after changing job recently, got to wear long sleeves and iron them. 1st was using the normal iron but found it too siong....then switched to garment steamers.....

 

can say not able to achieve the same standard as normal iron and also depending on the clothes' materials......but at least it's ok for the lazy me.......

The trick to reduce "siongness" when ironing is to set the temperature right. There is an indication on the knob for various types of clothing materials. Used it too low will be too siong, using too hot for certain materials like rayon will be very siong also 'cos it becomes sticky and iron will not glide easily.

work well only lady shirt due to type of material. forget it if you are buying for yourself.

No problems with my novita steam iron, easy to use and gets all the wrinkles out. If you play around with folding/pulling you can even get the crease lines decent. I made sure to watch youtube tutorials first before using.

 

It probably does take longer than a conventional iron but that's ok for me, only my own clothes and i'm goddamn useless with conventional iron. Plus I live in a shoebox and don't want an ugly ironing board to deal with.

Those commercial type is the best. Very fast can finish a shirt. Just place nicely, press one time and its done.

I have a noob question, anyone knows what is the different between those ironing board which sell at $10 dollar plus to $100 per piece ah? How come pricing can be so much difference between every ironing board?
