Here are 6 ugly facts about Singaporeans' incomes

Inflation rates are - pardon the pun - inflated by high property and car prices. These items should not be taken into consideration when talking about cost of living for the lower income group as they do not need to buy these items often. Maybe someone can release inflation figures without property and car prices (mrt and bus fares as basic transport cost can remain) and see what the "effective" inflation rate of day to day items such as food, utilities and basic transport to the lower income group is?

It doesn't tell the whole story. A lot of small businesses can't even afford to hire FW due to fast rising property prices(rental) and fast rising inflation. Many just give up and close shop. Higher profits for businesses? Really? For property businesses perhaps and big companies who can afford their own property.

"These items should not be taken into consideration when talking about cost of living for the lower income group as they do not need to buy these items often." Fantastic thinking. Or is there any thinking here? High property and car prices translate into higher operating costs for everything in day to day expenses, including the air that you breathe.

How often do you buy a car or a property, by the way? Every Saturday morning?

Agree totally. [thumbsup] Those who think rising property and car prices do not affect the poor have poor thinking capability. The effect is indirect which can be even worse off taking into consideration of their existing low income. To the rich, 50 cents increase in hawker food has no effect on them, but not the lower income group.
