If I want 4AT, reliability, 7 seater, I will go for Terios 7.

If I could afford it, I would go for 5AT Freed. Is it still avail in SG? SG only CVT izit?

A Malaysian told me its very value for money....from boleh perspective.

but as a bro shared, in Indo, it sells at 1/2 the price of Altis. And they price it like that at BM?

Toyota Avanza is definitely TOO EXPENSIVE ! [bounce2]

Check out their Indonesia website http://www.toyota.co.id/product/avanza/#price-and-specifications

The advertised retail price in Indonesia is only est. S$20K (RP179,500,000 / 8975) for a 1495CC MPV.

Since can sell in Indonesia at retail about S$20K, the cost to manufacture this can say <=S$10K.

But in Sg selling at S$133,988 (as of 16-Dec-2013),

http://www.toyotasingapore.com.sg/cars/new_cars/avanza/price.aspx

WOW! that's 669% difference ! [bounce1]

As of last COE price (Nov-2013), COE = S$74,991.

Think benchmark with VW Touran is a killer in disguish !

It should better off benchmark with Daihatsu Terios 7 (current est S$110K), where this the original design and make from.

Then again, Terios 7 is much better specs and performance then Avanza, it's better off selling <100K as benchmark.

Regardless it is made in indonesia or even japan, felt BM is selling Dou-fu ( beancurd ) like gold !

Hope Toyota or BM can seriously review this mini MPV pricing....

well, we can all check the LTA figures to see how many they sell.

maybe we will start seeing adverts for marketing positions by BM soon given this type of ridiculous pricing.

I think BM's hands are also tied when they are negotiating with Toyota Motor Asia Pac.

At the current COE situation, there is no way BM can justify high volumes which they experienced from 2006-2010 when COEs are low. No volume = No chance for lower price

The Kijang is not the Avanza. It is the Innova which is a bigger MPV.

Recently we used a rented Innova for 6 adults I 2yrsold for a few days in Penang. The 2.0L engine gave good power (for a no frill budget MPV) even up the mountains. The handling was so so due to maybe its ladder frame (I suspect this is what its based on).

The interior and seats are spacious and for the price we cant really expect luxurious feels etc as the quality of feel and touch items is so-so.

It does its jobs in a simple, reliable way and that's good enough for those who use it for the intended purpose.

If the Avanza also performs the same way ie honest, no-frills, reliable, it will be a decent choice for budget conscious buyers.

just ask top gear

TopGear is known for its dramas!!!

Exactly, who knows the high mounted grille and engine may be useful in SG when there is a sudden thunderstorm and flood occurs. laugh.gif

Not only is the high grille suitable for SE Asia roads, the rear mounted aircon (or blower) - total 6 powerful vents - is also a well thought design for our hot climate.

Made in SEA, for people of SEA!!

It will not satisfy atas-minded buyers for sure, but it offers decent value for money if COE prices don't kill it.

Well said!

So would you buy one for yourself, if the COE prices are reasonable?

Interior design of Avanza = Daihatus Terios 7

because Daihatsu is bought over by Toyota and many Daihatsu Terios 7 is running around in Indonesia before Toyota brand is introduced in that country. Similar outlook and touched up design based on Daihatsu but now branded as Toyota.

Likewise Daihatsu Terios models has been running in Singapore for many years, think at least 5 years.

My opinion for anyone looking at mini-MPV of Avanza, it's more economical value to go for Daihatsu Terios 7.

Unless Avanza price is brought down same as Terios 7, else BM volume be hard to move.

For reference price (w/COE) of both these brand / models as follow:

Toyota Avanza, $133K +/-

Daihatsu Terios 7, $110K +/-
