Siewss 1st Gear April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 I have a friend who just spent $10k repairing his 7-GTronics on his E230K - it was jerking and generating mechanical noises. Turned out it was an oil pump failure which eventually led to torque converter failure. It seems that the 7-GTronics gearbox is reputed to last 3 to 4 yrs. That's a very short lifespan for a gearbox. ↡ Advertisement

ER-3682 Twincharged April 14, 2013 Share April 14, 2013 The earlier model of the M.B. 7 speed auto[W211-E230],not very good, some owners reported 'rough shifting' at about 60Kkm...the clutch plate 'thinning' cause the problem...later version much better.

Unitek 1st Gear April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 My W212 though 4matic, is still running strong. Then again, 4 speed is too rough.

Odyssey02 Clutched April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I think the first generation 7G-Tronic lasts about 80k. Friend's W221 S350 failed at 78k. However I do not know whether it is the WS that is conning him or its really a problem. In and out of the workshop constantly and the workshop subcontracts to other people. Refuses to patronise another WS for a 2nd opinion. Also noticed many MB drivers do not engage their footbrake (too lazy to pull a lever to release the footbrake?) or electronic parking brake. An S Class weighs almost 2 tonnes and I think its unnecessary stress on the GB to hold the car. Just my opinion.

S'pore traffic too many stop & go,high stress on gearbox,in Germany, these gearbox can easily last 200kkm.
Heavenspirit Clutched April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 (edited) I would think all auto gear (ATF)needs to service regular at least every 30k -40k, also the filter needs to replace every 20k. Right oil must be use also. Cnc told me mb needs to do normal service for engine oil at 15k, (half a year) . Think this is too long for oil change.u never know wat service they do if send to AD, cos cannot see. Once warranty gone and needs high cost for service, most owner will trade in for new cars, win win for AD, either earn parts profit or the new cars.
