D1 Spec Coilover

I'm using D1 Spec on my 1.5 ton car for the past 2 years. Should be almost 40,000km already.

Still no problem. But I'm crossing my fingers already since its well-know that coilovers don't last much longer than 2 years.

Price is not expensive, so I don't mind to change back to new D1 Spec. Just that I find it troublesome to go down the workshop at Ubi.

I am also not sure why my Kw V2 wear out so fast. Maybe because of high speed Malaysian driving. My car also about 1.5 tons.

The D1 spec price is attractive. If my KW rosak again, I think I will just lup in D1s since car not that much COE lifespan left.

D1 Spec product are all China OEM rebranded product.. most of their product are made out of poor quality. Just in case you mention 2 years lifespan is satisfactory, infact it's not.

Bro, D1 Spec are from Taiwan as pointed out by Pabuatio. I don't know if they are OEM rebranded anot.

Your statement indirectly refers to that OEM stuff are made of poor quality.

IMO, its not true.

If you are paying for a expensive high-end branded product, you do not wish for it to be OEM rebranded, not so much because quality might be poor, but more because some other less-known brand can be selling the exact same thing but at a lower price.

If you can find the shop selling the same "OEM" coilover, and cheaper, let me know.

I be glad to switch.

Quality wise...Only D1spec are and questionable.

Most shops took the same product from the same supplier, already dictate what you are using.

How much for D1spec coilover cost? I believe they are about the same price.

Why look for cheap suspension, brake and tire?

Define 'Made in Taiwan'.

Are you saying that every single piece of the shock absorber is sourced, designed, produced in Taiwan by Taiwanese?

For your information, a lot of 'Made in Taiwan' auto parts are sourced from Mainland China as well.

Don't be misled by the country of origin. Check their QMS. This is the most important part of the product life cycle.

I don't have enough info but broadly speaking, there is nothing wrong in being produced by an OEM in China. I think many big 'famous' brands like Apple or Brembo are also produced in China.

As for the quality of D1 spec, regardless of the coils or dampers or perches or box being manufactured in China and assembled in Taiwan (if this is the case), I really cant say since I have no 1st hand experience with the product.

Do most users of D1 coils experience it wearing out in 2 years? If so, I would say that is rather poor (although my KW V2 made in Germany also up lorry in 2 years, all other users of KW I talked to had theirs last longer).

Or do any of you guys actually know for a fact that D1 coils are made in China and if so, by which OEM supplier?

I only noticed D1 because their Coils seem to be about half the price of the next cheapest brand. So keeping them in mind should my car need new coils in the last 1 or 2 years of COE.

It is not the country of origin that matters but the QMS behind each and every brand. There are more than tuning capabilities to worry about for shock absorbers. In fact tuning capability is not the main concern. Users should be more worried about fundamental problems like the piston rod material, chromium thickness, the piston rod dimension, ability to resist buckling and corrosion. The damping forces and its characteristics; whether it’s designed to resist roll, comfort, the amount of damping forces measured at the benchmark piston speed. The oil viscosity, amount of oil, the gas inside the damper, the mounting holes position which affect camber angle very prominently if you do not have a reliable camber kit to counter this nonconformity (cars like Toyota altis and Honda civics are very susceptible to this). This list goes on and on…

The brand determines the school of engineering behind the product. There are designated ISO systems established to ensure the quality reliability. The quality of the products must be also reliable throughout the entire production. You cannot buy something that’s good now and screw up when your friend buys it 3 months later. It must have a trusted consistency.

So if I were to buy a set of shock absorber, I will go for brands like KYB, Showa, SACHS, Koni, Bilstein. Funny brands like BC and D1spec or silver or whatever are strictly NO. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I think goondo is a strong word to use. Let the customers decide for themselves, if they want to buy something with improper QMS or they would rather do it the proper way. Their resources, their decision. As outsiders, we have no right to decide for them.

6 years on a set of shock absorber is very long. I won't do that All my shock absorbers go in 2 years, Regardless of condition. All shock absorbers will age as time goes. Because their seals and oil deteriorate. The compression rubber kit which acts as an auxiliary spring will also crack with age causing handling issues. The gas inside the damper will escape and thus lead to more possibilities of shock absorber fade. You will experience more damping problems after longer duration of driving. This is a problem that applies to all brands, eibach included.

Why you keep bashing this product? You have a personal agenda?

I did my research on coilovers before buying. D1-Spec offers the best value for money.

After buying, I'm not regretting.

5 Dislike points for you.

While I agree to your technical viewpoint on the dodgy technical quality, I cannot agree to the way you deliver your message. It is not blunt, it is plain rude.

No one is requesting for your satisfaction. A basic sense of respect for everyone is merely a decent requirement as of a human being. Even when you deal with ignorant people from 'sales department'. They have obviously done nothing against you.

This is a car forum. My suggestion for you is to approach the professionals in their respective websites if you want legal binding answers. For curiosity sake, what are you looking for?
