my mileage is 15k or max 20k per year

the extra road tax does not justify the cheaper diesel pump price ehh ... right?

Diesel cheaper than petrol abt $0.70 per litre. Factor in (conservatively) 10% better FC over petrol. Add $700 more road tax for diesel (compared to 2.4L petrol). Easily can recuperate liao.

Plus, big heavy SUV most suitable for turbo diesel. Makes light work of the weight n doesn't struggle like an underpowered 2.4L NA.

on the car it's probably 84km at that time, when I mention 80K, i meant the service timing, eg. 80K, 100K servicing even at 94K did not mean my ride is at 100K km.

Sorry for the confusion bro. But yes, we drive a lot as a family, plus couple of Malaysia runs.

Interesting...., is there an inherent problem or its the way the vehicle was wired...?

Overall it is not that bad, just these little small things, for a Diesel ride - it is amazing.

was wondering too. My is a 2.4 GDI version. This morning at 6am driving on fan speed 3 and the temp for both driver and passenger climate control was set to 20 degrees C. 2 person in the car. i am feeling the driver air coming out is still not as cold as the passenger side. The recent weather is cooling as well and you can feel a bit warm. the fan speed is not equal for passenger and driver. The other time the fan speed was lower then passenger and they said a valve was faulty so they have change it. Then I can feel the fan is a lot stronger and now it return to the same. I find it frustrating that this does not always happen and as a driver you can feel it when you are driving, Need to complain when returning for servicing.

Hi, I'm officially a proud owner of the Kia Sorento! Just a few questions for the bros here:

Is there a spare tyre that comes with the car? Mine doesn't have one but I think I read somewhere that there is.

The boot button on the key is just for unlocking the tailgate? After pressing button, still have to manually go to the tailgate, press underneath and push up tailgate right?

I read up a little more about this, there seems to be an inherent design blip inside the vent and the open valve in the engine heat, the work around is to tune the air-conditioning 1-2°C lower. Which I am ok with.

I complained to service they cleaned out my air-conditioning and new gas top up, but some issue, they suggested to bypass the heating sensor so that it will always be cold and will not have warmer, I told them to keep it as it is, I just did the work around. You can bring this up about me as reference and hope that they can help you with what you feel comfortable with.

Congrats!! best decision yet!

There is no spare tyres in the car, but this is not new as more and more cars will be going down this route, more and more cars will come with sealant and inflator kits to help save weight and fuel. I took it out and used the space to keep umbrellas and emergency packs. (In Singapore, just call tow. But if I drive up to Malaysia, I will bring it along)

Boot button on our car is useless, as we don't have an auto tailgate. But it is ok for me, I am ok as it is.

Happy driving, this is a big ass car and well built even compared to branded SUVs, overall good ride.

Thanks!! I'm loving the smooth and quiet ride, but need to get used to the big size, haha!

I see, I guess not much problem for me as I seldom drive up north. I agree that the boot button is quite useless then, haha.

Anyway I don't see many sorentos on the road, don't know why. But I saw a 2015 one yesterday for the first time as I was going to collect my car! Nice but I still prefer the design I have.

Dear Sorento owners,

Need your help in your view points with 3 concerns that I have after test driving one yesterday.

1. Diesel Engine - how is is maintenance wise? Whenever jumping to the Conti forum, most of the discussions are around the Gear Box and the Diesel Engine.

2. Is the small Display screen OK to manage with?

3. The SE mentioned that only one specific brand diesel in MY is recommended for Sorento, how are you managing when you drive up north?

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Firstly, in any car the most important thing is the engine(if it fails, no matter how good it looks on the outside, is not going to help you), than the quality of the built, than design, space...etc. Some folks are design first,......well, this is my personal belief when you select a ride.

The light pressure turbo on the CRDi is an award winning engine. Maintenance is low, no spark plugs...etc. Have you ever wondered the Hyundai taxis on the road can hit 600,000KM and still go strong. I did some read up before I bought my Sorento CRDi, made sure that maintenance is manageable and the engine is reliable.

At 94,000km in 3 year (by March) so far just regular maintenance, never cost more than $250 each time for oil...etc. The first 50,000km was even lower.

2.2 liter, CRDi - 436NM Torque and 194HP has a VGT - Variable Geometry Turbo Charger

KIA Diesel Engine Buzz:

There are many articles online that sing praises about the 2.2 CRDi, its also found in majority of Hyundai CRDi vehicles as well.

Have fun! Its a great car, I will probably get the 2020 version when my ride is on it's 7th year. Wonder what it will be than... :)

thanks Bro, it sounds right to your findings. Current is 19 driver and 20 passenger side. no choice and it keep cool on hot days. But somehow when driving long journeys i find the cool will reduce and you can feel cool and warm air during the drive. This is just driving from Suntec to Punggol via KPE. if is not that often, it is still ok with me. but why this only surface after some time. I don't feel it for the past 1 year before it start happening. If is a issue then Kia should fix it.

Yea, I was impressed too, its a Turbo Diesel. No wonder so much torque.

Specs for our version, this was taken from Australian spec sheet, kinda gives you an idea of it's capability.
