I think there are still many people willing to do this. Always wonder where they have so much hard cash on hand?

80% of households are staying in HDB. These people are not paying cash for their mortgages and is very likely to have a lot of cash. The high properties prices have also prevented them from upgrading. So, might as well buy cars.

MOTOR VEHICLES1

DE-REGISTERED UNDER VEHICLE QUOTA SYSTEM (VQS)

Period Total Category A Category B

2013 41,501 9,329 8,944

2014 (Jan-May) 22,086 6,063 5,330

2014 (Jan) 3,630 1,011 927

2014 (Feb) 3,917 1,104 926

2014 (Mar) 5,805 1,330 1,308

2014 (Apr) 4,858 1,347 1,068

2014 (May) 3,876 1,271 1,101

=========

Latest data from LTA, for Apr-May 14, the number of de-registered cars are higher than Jan-Feb 14. The COE quota should be higher if trend continues.

Also, the number of vehicles de-registered in first 5 months of 2014 is higher than the average of 1st 6 months of 2013.

First 5 months of 2014 CAT A & B cars scrapped is about 60% or more than that of entire year of 2013.

if assumed dereg for jun 2014 is the avg of apr n may 2014, i computed that there will b 13.5% more Cat A quota n 3% more Cat B quota for the next quarter (aug-oct).

or 68 more Cat A quota n 13 more Cat B quota for EACH bidding exercise.

XieXie! We are not buying a car. We are renting a car for 10 years.

Extra cash is King. Car is losing money every year. Once out from the showroom, 15K gone.

Are you sure only 15k?.. Your car paper value easily lost more than 30% the moment you collect the key...

Note that LTA may clawback some of the COEs. there is a possibility that not all the COEs will be 100& released

even if lta wanted to "save some for the future low", it's obviously shld not b starting this yr, especially when the existing clawbck will only end in jan 2015, right?

Margins from car agents...

8-10k margin for normal B&B cars is common.

That will be gone for sure.

Next if you sell to 2nd dealer, they give you another 5k less so that they can profit the 5k from you and another 5k from the buyers.

voilà.... gone with the wind

Just take the average COE per bidding exercise to gauge when crawl back will take place, given the cycle has just started, it won't be this year.

Have you wonder why COE bidding need 3days window to bid? always no activity until the last day so why not just do the bidding in one day can already, like the first and third Wednesday of the month.

For us is no activity in the 1st 2 days.. But for industry players, there is a lot of in these 2 days and no activity in the last day. [smash]

I guess what will happen is everyone planning to buy a car will wait for COE price to drop to a certain level then all go in and buy.

i will wait for the economy to go down. COE will naturally go down too.

and that is, if you're afraid of your rice bowl tomorrow, do you still wanna buy a car today?
